I have a contact with two numbers, one from Google, one from Outlook. However, I can't identify which number the person replied from when he sends an SMS. How do you find this out. I remember in older phones, it was message details.

If you tap the name at the top of the text message the contact will open up in the people hub. The phone number that is shown in your theme color is the one that was used to send the text.

I don't think that's true. I received an SMS from a friend with two numbers. I tap the name, but both numbers are highlighted in the colour of the theme.

Not sure about other Lumias..but on Lumia 920 it works as follows..

When tap on the message the threaded view opens up..At the bottom there are 4 options available Send (Greyed out), Attach, Speak and Switch .. Tapping on Switch takes to the screen where the 2 nos. of the sender are displayed with one from which the message is sent being highlighted in Theme colour ...
