Re: Lumia 520 Not 4g?

Can you give a picture of the box that shows that?

Both variants of the Lumia 520 (914 & 915) does not have an LTE/4G hardware.

Re: Lumia 520 Not 4g?

2G = EDGE (shows as 2G)

3G = GPRS (Shows as 3G)

3.5G = HSDPA (shows as H)

4G = HSDPA+ (Shows as H+)

4G LTE = LTE (Sows as LTE)

It is quite possible you do not have H+ available, the 520 does not do LTE so you go to 3G (of H is available)

Re: Lumia 520 Not 4g?

I'm in the heart of Vancouver. H+ and LTE are prevelant here, on my carrier.

I just made a video showing my 520 on 4g.

it is uploading to YouTube now...i got it fixed.

by dialing ##3282# from the dialer...hit your 3 dots. Go to settings.

from there select automatic connection from the menu.

as you load web pages the 4g activates...once the page is fully loaded it reverts back to 3g...

hop on YouTube and search

Nokia Lumia 520 on fido has 4g

Re: Lumia 520 Not 4g?

@paulheu

I have to disagree with your classification.

As far as I know, GPRS is 2G not 3G. EDGE is 2.5G. 3G is UMTS and 3.5G is HSPA/HSPA+. 4G is LTE only. So, in table form:

2G = GPRS (shows as G)
2.5G = EDGE (shows as E)
3G = UMTS (shows as 3G or 3G+)
3.5G = HSPA/HSPA+ (shows as H or H+)
4G = LTE (shows as 4G or LTE depending on models)

Re: Lumia 520 Not 4g?

you are correct on GPRS.. although G generally would indicate 3G connections

In the case of GPRS the G indicates the word "General". It pre-dates 3G connections and standards.

GPRS = General Packet Radio Service. It is the original 2G data service that many networks still fall back on today, and usually indicated with a G or 2G symbol. That being the case G alone does not indicate 3G.

Re: Lumia 520 Not 4g?

Hi,

I must tell I am puzzled too.

This morning, my Nokia 520 showed a 4G icon in the upper left corner, before getting back to 3G.

Why would a 3G-only phone detext 4G and have such a built-in icon, if it is useless?

Re: Lumia 520 Not 4g?

There must be 4g in your region so it wouldn't pick it up otherwise.

If  i have helped at all a click on the white star below would be nice thanks.

Re: Lumia 520 Not 4g?

Sure, there are a couple of 4G providers (such as mine) here around.

Actually, the question is: why does a non-4G-ready phone like my Lumia 520 show a 4G icon although it is not supposed to "know" what 4G is?

Would there be any undocumented support for 4G in my 520?

Re: Lumia 520 Not 4g?

HSDPA+ is considered 4G. At least it is according to Phone Arena. Some people call it 3.5G and only consider LTE to be true 4G. Splitting hairs really. HSDPA+ is pretty fast.
