Lumia 710 Proximity sensor bug

I'm having a trouble with my proximity sensor, it has too small range. My phone goes to a "hold call" mode while talking constantly. Does any one knows any solution to calibrate this sensor?

Re: Lumia 710 Proximity sensor bug

^ Any feedback on this, I have the same problem. Using the nokia diagnostics tool and holding my thumb over the sensor causes it to flit between detected and not detected.

Re: Lumia 710 Proximity sensor bug

My girlfriend picked up her first smartphone, a Lumia 710, and it is also doing this, she frequently hits the mute (I think) button on screen while talking to me. Is this a software or hardware issue? Not sure if I should swap out her phone with the cell phone company for another 710 or wait for a software update.

Thanks

Re: Lumia 710 Proximity sensor bug

I'm having the same problem with my proximity sensor from very first day. After software updation (2 times) by nokia care people ( as they presumed that it is a s/w problem), problem not solved.

And now  they are saying that they have to send the mobile for REPAIRING, to their workshop.

because this is the manufacturing problem, so responsibility of nokia. Nokia must replace these crapy hardware and give new phone.

I also written a letter to NOKIA but they didnt reply so far.never expected this from NOKIA. and i am sure that in future, i am not gonna purchase any mob. from NOKIA.

Re: Lumia 710 Proximity sensor bug

Same problem for me.

In my case, the more annoying thing is that the phone put the call on hold way too often.

When this happens, sometimes the touch screen not respond so i can unhold the call. The only workaround i have found is to press twice the on/off key to restore the touch screen funcionality.

I have used the Nokia diagnostic tools and the proximity sensor seems to work fine in my phone so i hope there is a software fix in the way.

Re: Lumia 710 Proximity sensor bug

Hey ws117z5, Welcome to the Nokia Forums!

Do you have any sort of screen protector that is covering the proximity sensor? this can cause it to bug and lock the screen.

Soft reset your Nokia Lumia 710 by pressing *#7780# and then Dial. The security code is 12345. Once you complete this, your phone will come back to factory settings, but you will not loose personal data. Anyway it is recommended to make a backup beforehand.

Let me know how it goes.

Re: Lumia 710 Proximity sensor bug

The trick is how to hold your phone, I was so mad nearly everycall my wife makes she put me on hold, because the screen did not turn off, her face accidently touch the hold button.

Now she is very careful about the way she holds the phone, it's a lot better.

For me, compare with iphone, this is either a design flaw or defective sensor

Re: Lumia 710 Proximity sensor bug

I thought I was the only one. It's rather bothering that the phone keep putiing calls on hold or dropping them. I've tried every position to hold it.

It seems that the sensor stops working when it is placed in the gap withing my ear.

Can somebody please fix this.

Re: Lumia 710 Proximity sensor bug

Same problem here. My wife and I have bought two Lumia 710s (black and white) and the white phone's proximity sensor constantly turns the screen on during calls and she puts them on hold or enables speaker....

Re: Lumia 710 Proximity sensor bug

Tried the *#7780# reset, but phone errors out with a message *FO9IL_ or something like that... doesn't solve the problem with proximity sensor.

Nokia guys, do you have any other suggestions?

Re: Lumia 710 Proximity sensor bug

Hi olbez,

Thanks for your post!

Your can check if he sensor works correctly by going to diagnostic tools (if not available dial ##634#) and select the proximity test. You will see a yellow circle. When you put your hand over the sensor, which is in the left top corner of the Lumia 710, the circle will turn green until you remove your hand. If this does not happen as described goto a Nokia Care point to have your device checked.

Hope this helps,

Kosh

Re: Lumia 710 Proximity sensor bug

When I bought the lumia 710, it had a number of irritating bugs with the major one being the screen freeze bug which used to freeze the screen and make it unresponsive when ever a call was disconnected. Till now there have been many software updates and almost all the bugs have been fixed. Kudos to Nokia for their great support. I love this device, it has an awesome user experience for such a low price but there are still 2 bugs which Nokia needs to take care of and hasn't even acknowledged them.

1. The proximity sensor is laggy to respond. I played around with it during many calls to check it and the sensor has a delay in switching off/on the screen after detecting an object.

2. The lockscreen lags in waking up after clicking the lock button. It usually gives a 2-3 very noticeable and irritating delay in showing the lockscreen.

Re: Lumia 710 Proximity sensor bug

I experience exactly the same problems.

It's irritating that you have to remember exact, unnatural position of the phone to have the screen turned off, otherwise I get the hold button pressed incidentally nearly every call :smileysad:

I really like the phone, it's fast, responsive but this particular 'bug' is killing the whole experience.

Nokia, please try better or you'll never reach your competitors, not thinking about getting ahead of them, as it used to be ...

Re: Lumia 710 Proximity sensor bug

You are saying the diagnostic tools test works, you see a yellow circle which turns green when you put you finger over the sensor?

If so, what is it you are experiencing that you feel is not correct? If the sensor is working the screen will blank when you cover the sensor during a call and come back when you uncover the sensor. If you feel your device is not functioning correctly please visit a Nokia Care Point for further assistance.
