I have a lumia 710 and am suffering with the problem of the backlight flickering when the phone is locked. I have removed the battery several times, turned it off and on several times, restored it to factory settings and altered the brightness but the problems still exists. Any suggestions?

You have the brightness problem when the phone is locked, how is that so? You mean when you press the lock button to check your lock screen?

You should try a different wallpaper, but for your information there is no solution for that issue...
I have the brightness problem since I got my Lumia 710

But unlike you, I have it when I'm on Internet Explorer checking websites or using other applications (especially when the background is white/light).

I have the problem when the screen goes black after I have locked the phone. It just flashes white every now and again and it's quite annoying

I've tried that and gone through the troubleshoot solution but none of that seemed to work. I've had to send it off for repair so hopefully it will be fine when I get it back
