Re: Lumia 800 powers on to the 'Nokia' wording, won't charge and won't switch on

Hi,

I came onto the Nokia discussion forums to see if I could find a solution to the problem I am having and have found that thousands of other people are having similar problems!

I have had a very similar problem to TTT1. I was at the airport in Marrakech, Morocco and tried to connect to their open WIFI that was available. It didn't work so I switched off the WIFI after which my phone switched itself off. I powered it on and it started to switch on and off for about 15 minutes then completely powered off.I then switched it on again and and it did the same; powered on and off continously for 15 minutes. I left it off until I returned to the UK, when I powered it on, it switched it on to the 'Nokia' wording cam up and thats it and it preceded to do this for 10 to 15 minutes. It has been like this for two days.

I brought my phone in the UK. I bought my phone a few months ago, love the phone and have had no problems with it until now.

Re: Lumia 800 powers on to the 'Nokia' wording, won't charge and won't switch on

Thanks for that it is helpful. I also went into the Tmobile shop in my town and explained the situation, they said it is an issue with the software and the Lumia's they've had in have all had this problem.

I was asked if I wanted to send it off for repair or I was told that the only way the issue would be resolved is if I kept the phone in a warm place whilst charging i.e. in a blanket, that is the only way the phone will start working.

The thing is i have potos and videos that I have not had a chance to back up before it conked out. So I will try the rogue method first in case i get lucky otherwise its getting shipped off.

Re: Lumia 800 wont power on or charge

[ Edited ]

Well, I am now onto my fourth day with no working phone. My Nokia Lumia 800 turned itself into a glossy black brick on Monday, and I have had no luck in resurrecting it ever since. I have tried everything suggested in this thread, including both the soft and hard reset, but nothing has worked so far. The device remains in a vegetative state, and I have almost run out of patience with it.

In a last ditch effort to try and bring it back to life, I have ordered a higher output micro USB charger (5V 2A) from Ebay and I'm now awaiting delivery. Hopefully the extra juice will do the trick. However, I am so ticked off with Nokia, and so utterly disillusioned by this whole frustrating experience, that I may just toss the damned thing in the garbage. Yes, I am now seriously considering going with a Samsung Galaxy S3 instead. The current versions of Android are nicely mature, and the specifications for the S3 really do kick the beejeezus out of the Lumia.

I think what's most worrying is the complete lack of official response from Nokia. They have known about these battery and charging issues since the Lumia 800/710 was brought to market, and yet even the more recent Lumia 900 suffers from exactly the same issues. What the hell is going on over at Nokia? Is anyone over there actually listening to what their customers are saying? Attempting to blame this obviously quite serious hardware/software bug on "broken USB connectors" is a total farse, and seems to be Nokia's way of passing the buck for their faulty hardware onto it's customers. What kind of company gets away with operating in this manner? And what kind of mobile phone company manufactures a phone that won't charge in the first place?

Re: Lumia 800 wont power on or charge

I had a similar issue:

1. The phone had almost a full charge

2. All of the sudden the phone turned off and I cannot turn it on again

Tried:

1. Charging it all night long

2. 2 button combination (vol down + power button)

3. 3 button combination (vol down+camera+power button)

4. Left it in a warm place while charging

No luck in getting the phone to turn on.

Any more ideas?.

Re: Lumia 800 wont power on or charge

Hi rconde,

Thanks for your feedback and welcome to the forum.

I can understand it can be frustrating when your (new) Lumia phone does not work as it should or you expect it to. If you find the solutions offered here do not help you please visit a Nokia Care point of contact Nokia Care by Phone, Mail or Chat (where available) to have your Lumia checked. Please be aware these forums are a user to user and not a 'direct support from Nokia' platform. Please see the forum guidelines if you have any questions on posting or on the purpose of these forums.

Hope this helps,

Kosh

Re: Lumia 800 wont power on or charge

You take it back to whoever you bought it from. You have a defective phone. If you bought it from a shop, whether it's contract or PAYG take it back. If you bought it online get in touch with them. I'm speaking from UK consumer law viewpoint but your first port of call should be the seller, not Nokia unless you bought it direct from Nokia.

If this was a defective washing machine or a car or whatever other piece of kit would you complain to the manufacturer? You wouldn't-you'd go straight back to the person who sold it.

Re: Lumia 800 wont power on or charge

im only on here saying this because i had another problem on my phone with a zune app, and i went into the shop and was in there for 2 hours just for them to tell me they could not do anything about it and to contact nokia, and seeing as this is OBVIOUSLY a big problem with these phones as so many people have had this. I thought i would make nokia aware of it and ask why they feel the need to keep bringing out more phones, when there is clearly a problem going on!! sorry to sound blunt, but its just so frustrating!!

Re: Lumia 800 wont power on or charge

I've had this message problem often and now been days and tried every solution... after the run around from O2 and Nokia about who should deal with it found the solution... iPhone. At least I can go to the apple store with a problem and they sort it.

Sorry but even a 10eur phone has a better user experience than a 500eur piece of black plastic. I've been spreading the word not to get Nokia phones and this does not bode well if multiplied

Too bad because in theory its a better device... but all I have is a thin brick

Re: Lumia 800 wont power on or charge

I was travelling earlier on a bus and it was very cold then suddenly my Lumia 800 stopped, i was pretty sure my battery wasnt drained because I just got it fully charged and i was only listening to music with my headset.

So upon reading this thread, i hard and soft reset, charge using a different cable, power plug and from pc plug, all no avail. So i open up my burner and heated my phone. After a minute, i tried turning it on, alas! it worked.

Thanks guys.

Re: Lumia 800 wont power on or charge

I've had the same problem for weeks despite back to back software updates. I managed to revive the phone once by heating it with a hairdryer (though this does not seem like a normal thing to have to do to a phone), but it has since died again and nothing will bring it back to life.

I have given up and brought my old iPhone back out of its box.

I bought Nokia Lumia 800 handset and it turned out to be a night mare for me..

First thing, I ordered the phone from flipkart.com and the handset I got din’t turn on, after getting a replacement for that the second phone received also had battery issues (it always showed “?” sign on the battery) but thanks to good service of flipkart that they replaced that handset as well. Now I got a third Lumia 800 handset, it was working fine for 2 months after which I started facing charging issues and even after charging the phone for 5-6 hrs my battery percentage is not increasing even by 2%.

Then I took this phone to a nokia service station (it is still under warranty) and these service station guys are always trying to loot the customer. I submitted my phone to the service centre and then I get a call from them that I will be charged Rs 9600 as my charging jack is not working properly. I went back to Nokia and on receiving my phone I found that they broke the pin inside the charging jack. Before submitting the phone the charging pin was intact, and even after shouting and creating a mess in Nokia centre nothing happened as these guys were so adamant in not accepting that it was their fault. Also they simply refused to give any proof of my visit (receipt or a copy of job sheet)

Now, first Nokia gave me a **bleep** phone (pardon my language) and secondly they have the poorest service centres available (always looking for looting the customers). I am probably planning to buy a new phone now, may be Samsung or HTC, but would never go for a Nokia again, never ever in my life. I would really suggest all other customers to think twice before you buy a Nokia. Nokia Lumia series were supposed to be a breakthrough in Nokia’s life but alas nothing as planned will happen if you guys continue to provide such quality.

Re: Lumia 800 wont power on or charge

Well, this will be the last Nokia I every buy.

As an IT Professional I love this phone as I use Windows every day and it ties in nicely with my work. However, after lots of trouble for the first 6 months of getting it to charge it finally gave up on me, no vibrate on charge nothing! so Off it went to Nokia and I got it back in 5 days. All internal boards replaced but same chassis and screen(Why bother just give me a new phone!!) All was well I thought, but alas, less than 7 weeks later here I am with the same problem so back it goes again.

Im with Orange for my contract and according to them they only take responsibility for the first 6 months warranty then pack you off to Nokia. I did argue the toss on this quoting the sales of goods act but they dont listen, they want you to take out a care package for a phone that comes with a 2 year warranty, please, have a word with yourself Orange.

Anyways I will repost when i get my 3rd phone, and then ill repost again when that one goes the same way and is on its way back to Nokia.

Nokia, your reputaion for building bullet-proof phones is now well and truely shattered beyond all repair.

Re: Lumia 800 wont power on or charge

I seem to have the same problem with battery. I have tried heating the phone, every button combination with every time duration 8,10,30 etc, reconnecting continually and long periods of charging but I have yet to find a solution. Very disappointing considering it's been two months since I bought the phone.
