Well, its happened to me too. Got the L800 back in March and this morning I went to charge it. Popped the charger in, manually powered down and then it just won't start back up again.
Very disappointed.
Thankfully I'm covered with really good EE mobile insurance but it's just the annoyance of having it die on me like this. For the record, I'm really careful with my phones so I don't buy the "it's the charger/connector being damaged" argument.
I was planning on replacing the 800 with a 920 but I now have my doubts. Could this be the catalyst for me to leave Nokia after more than a decades use of their products?
I really love Nokia-WP but I think a switch to Samsung-Android might be on the cards now.

I'm an electronic engineer working in design and production of electronics. My friend has a Nokia Lumia 800 with a broken USB connector, meaning it won't charge. I've disassembled the phone (following the official Nokia disassembly guide) and found that the USB connector has NOT been loaded on the board correctly (see image). It is at an angle to the mother board, and one side is raised as a result. This would have put a lot of pressure on the connector when mated, causing it to break.
In this instance the plastic that contains the mating contacts to the outside world has broken. Also, internally where these contacts turn into pins, the solder joints to the board have completely broken.
This is clearly a manufacturing fault and can in no way be blamed on the user.
Feel free to boycott Nokia in the future.

I am now going onto my 3rd Lumia 800, if the same thing happens again I can get a different phone. I went for it to support Nokia after having many great Nokia phones in the past before switching to iPhones. It is a great pity, and one would think Nokia would take this seriously and do something about it. Very very disappointed but they have lost another customer.

Loved this phone until ten minutes ago, Left it at work yesterday and now just putting it on charge!!.
Now i have a dead Nokia 800 sitting buzzing away every 1.5 minutes, This is not a conection prob it's software it just doesnt have eneough energy to reboot its self and go into charge mode, it way too sensitive and obviously a big issue for Nokia.
Well after reading this thread and then HAVING to register to post and a loyal Nokia customer for over a decade. i was so looking forward to the 920.
Think i'll try Android smart next

I always have a good chuckle whenever someone says they are going to try android next etc.
I use 4 phones daily, 2 are Nokias and the other two are a Galaxy S 2 and a Galaxy Nexus, both running Jellybean. I think I am well qualified to say that the grass is perhaps a different shade but not necessarily greener on the other side.
As a matter of fact I experienced the exact same issue 2 weeks ago with my HTC Sensation which refused to charge after fully discharging. My usual cure for this is to use the highest capacity charger I have which is a 2A tablet charger and connect and disconnect periodically until charging kicks in. Not sure how it works but has served me well.

I'm starting to think you've got it figured out, LMC82. It's pretty easy to confirm it is because of the USB connector of the phone. Just plug the phone to a computer. Notice how Windows makes its "USB device connected" sound. Now, very gently tilt the mini-USB connector at the phone end of the cable: Windows makes its "USB device disconnected" sound! Probably when you put the phone on the table it connects again and then disconnects once you even take a look at it. This extremely unreliable connection makes it impossible to even update the software on the phone.
Edit/Add: Added an image attachment showing my current charging position where a USB cable has been wrapped around the phone so that the torque pushes the USB connector towards the board, making charging possible.

Does the phone vibrate at all when you press and hold the vol down+Power+Camera buttons? You will to hold them for a while. If it does vibrate, you need to release just the power buttion when it vibrates and release the other 2 about 5 seconds afterwords. This is the hard reset. You will lose all your data on your phone doing this and the phoine will be returned to its out of the box state.

OK, I had the exact same problem today with my phone. I was stressing out seeing as I had it on charge all of last night, when I left it it was charging fine but when I woke up, to my dismay, it hadn't charged nor would it turn on.
I tried everything, soft reset, hard reset, holding all buttons down multiple times for a total of about 5 minutes. nothing. I also tried using different smart phone chargers which I have for other family members phones (such as blackberrys and samsungs) still, nothing.
I decided to put it in the airing cupboard (by the boiler) to warm it up a bit, when it was warm enough (so I thought) I plugged it in to my original charger, and pressed multiple buttons. nothing. changed chargers, still nothing.
Finally, I decided to warm it up whilst charging it, so I plugged it in and sat on it (for heat!) suddenly, it vibrated and showed the battery screen with the white battery and red line, after a couple of minutes the phone started up and is now working fine again! I think, because of the cold nights, the battery was cold. It needs to be warm to work. hope this helped!

@sarah123
Reaction rate doubles for every 10 degree Celsius increase in temperature. You won't be old enough to remember warming Zinc/Carbon batteries by an open fire at Christmas to gain a short reprieve, when no shops were open and your favourite toy had died!![]()

Just had my 3rd Nokia Lumia go dead, am in discussions with EE (Orange) about swapping for a differant phone. What amazes me is that Nokia haven't done anything about this problem, or at least acknowledged it. I am really dissapointed in Nokia.
