Okay so that's something that troubles me - lumia820 doesnt have much of the built in memory, 8gb minus size of the OS lives about 7gb to play with. And I guess it would suffice with photos & videos going to sd card, but something's eating away almost 2.5gb from my built in mem and I have no idea what it is.

That's the mem usage:

music+videos: 2.61MB
pictures: 0MB
Apps: 798.36MB
Other: 2.46GB
System: 1.90GB
Free space: 2.27GB

So what the hell is that "other" thingie? I have very little games and just a few apps, I have purged cache and memory of all the apps I could and it didnt budge, it's still almost 1/3rd of the memory missing... help!

Other could be anything really, stored app data (which will not be removed unless you remove the app), cache, workspace for the OS, I guess some sort of swap space like you would have for Windows.

Without knowing what your phone would look like after it's initial boot it's hard to tell.

Thin is I have absolutely nothing that would justify usage of such amount of memory. Is there really no way to see how much each program is eating so i could look for one that's causing the problem?

Could it be app data like maps, contacts, messages?

Maps - purged them and removed all data stored so no, it wasnt maps (was my first thought as well). Deleted them just to make sure but still nothing.

Contacts - I do have few, but nowhere close to 2gb

Messages - none, phone is new and fresh, not even week old so did not manage to get a lot of msges stored yet.
