I bought the Lumia 822 from a Verizon store this past weekend, and so far I am very satisfied with the phone. However, I have been trying to obtain a wireless charging back and wireless charging plate/pillow/stand/whatever for easy and convenient charging at home and at my work. The charging pads seem easy enough to locate online, as no stores seem to have them in stock as of now, but I am unable to find the wireless charging back anywhere. Some stores seem to have no idea what I'm talking about regarding the charging back, and I seem to be seeing conflicting stories about whether or not I actually need to purchase the back. Some places say that wireless charging can be done with the phone straight out of the box, while others say that one would have to purchase the back separately. I cannot seem to get a definitive answer on this, so I'd like to hear it straight from the horse's mouth, if at all possible.
If wireless charging can be done straight out of the box, then great. If I need to purchase the back, where can I buy it...because it's not showing up anywhere.

When I navigate to the page for the Charging Plate on Verizon's website, only then do I see a link for the wireless charging cover: https://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/store/accessor
The page doesn't seem to load with the correct formatting, so I don't know if Verizon is pulling the page or just didn't do things correctly with setting it up. I can't seem to find pictures of the inside of the cover, so therefore I can't tell what the structure of it is like in comparison to the cover that came on the phone.

I've been to a couple stores in my area and near where I work. None of them have the charging plate as of yet, and the Microsoft Store doesn't even list the pad for sale online.

There you see on the Verizon site ...

The 822 definitely needs a charging shell as per the Nokia developers specifications page. Under power management it lists QI wireless charging with the note, "With a wireless charging shell".

There was also another thread on the same subject which highlighted the fact that most people assumed it had it already built in as per the official accessories page where the chargers are advertised but not the wireless shells.
http://www.nokia.com/us-en/products/phone/lumia822
The OP in that thread had actually bought the charging plate and couldn't get it to work not realising he needed the shell as well.

You can order the lumia 822 charging backplate from verizon wireless... it is now finally listed on their website.... you can also order the wireless charging plate but if you want the wireless charging stand then it is easier to go to the nokia website and order it there.... i just got mine and it came from at&t.

I have the back and the DT-910 charger, but my Lumia 822 doesn't have the accessories app loaded and when prompted by tapping to look for the app, it says it can't find it on the Windows Phone store. I'm wondering if anyone has the Accessories app and has been able to launch an app when tapping the charger.

@Stagecoach
Users have reported similar issues using DT-910 with 920 unfortunately:http://discussions.nokia.com/t5/Nokia-Lumia/Nokia-

I have had the same issue. I reported this issue to Nokia and hopefully they can resolve it in the near future. It seems like they missed adding the Accessories sub menu in the Settings menu. Everything else works... wireless charging works perfectly... love the phone and the Nokia apps.

A charging back plate is required to use a pillow, pad or charging stand. Verizon has them currently in either black or white. I have seen some folks with black phones get the white back and vice-versa. Looks kinda cool. The back plate does not impact the thickness of the phone, nor the weight. All covers and skins will fit as advertised. Note that when you order your 822 from Verizon, you get a 25% discount on accessories. That's a good time to buy your back plate! ![]()
I went with the DT Charging Stand for my 822. Got it off of the TMOB site because Amazon was out at the time. Amazon now has inventory. Same price regardless. Charging stand charges fast; about 30 to 45 minutes for a full charge on a dead 822. Phone gets warm during the charge. Charging stand has indicator light that turns on during charge. Stand and charger will shut off when phone is charged so the device does not overheat or overcharge. Phone will charge with case, cover or skin on the phone.
Another cool thing I have seen would be Nokia owners who purchse the charging pad, then mount the pad on the underside of their desk so that all you have to do is lay your phone on the desk to charge it! Kind of a cool idea if you don't like cords or pads on your desk.

Hi
I purchased my 822 in white just after New Years. I just got off the phone with a Verizon Rep (i ordered the charging plate) and they said that my particular model had the charging back straight out the box. When I take the back cover off and look at it, it has a little black pad like a cushion for the battery, and an imbedded piece near the top. I'll attach a photo (hopefully it's clear enough) to show what it looks like. It's a little fuzzy since taking the back part off seems to mess with the focus of the cell camera. I guess that some of the models didn't come standard with the Qi wireless backing? Hope this helps!

Just an update. After the headache of phone reps not being knowlegable, I ended up having to purchase the backing. I attached a pic of what the charging back looks like. The shape is slightly different, but nothing drastic to the point that you would have to change the proctective case, if you have one. There is no weigh difference really and I'm happy to finally use the charger! I wish they would've just bundled the backing and the charger, which would make sense in a perfect world. It worked perfect on first try and so convenient. Great alternative to constantly buying chargers that short out after a short while. I hope this helps anyone who reads!
