Lumia 900 GPS issue (Netherlands)

My Lumia 900 has the following issue: normally I can navigate with Nokia Drive, or use any other GPS based software. But then, suddenly -every now and then-, the GPS loses its fix. The location is lost, and does not come back. The only way to restore the GPS to normal functioning is to soft reset the 900. All this happens under a clear, open sky, while other phones (Nokia 701) keep a steady fix.

I have tested with wifi on/off, bluetooth on/off, 2G/3G on/off, resetting "location" settings. Nothing works, but the soft reset.

Lumia running: 7.10.8773.98

Any idea anyone?

Hi! Check the time. It must be in the correct time zone. Had the same problem when I was on vacation. In Portugal. Best regards HenningDK

My Date/Time settings were set automatically. I will set them to manual and see if that will help. Thanks for the tip.

Device goes back to shop. I'm going to try the HTC Titan instead. Sad, but with zero response form Nokia NL I do not want to end up with frustrations.

Re: Lumia 900 GPS issue (Netherlands)

Hi Yvar,

Thanks for your post and welcome to the forum.

Have you seen a Nokia Care Point or did you contact Nokia Care. These are two different things, the first being independent shops, the second being the customer support organisation for Nokia. If you feel your new device is not working properly you should first return to your suppliers and/or contact Nokia Care by phone, mail or chat (where available). You will find contact information through this link.

Could you provide a reference number you got from Nokia Care or else in a private message to me your email address and/or phone number so we can investigate this further.

Hope this helps, let us know how you get on.

Kosh

Re: Lumia 900 GPS issue (Netherlands)

I'm having the same problem. I also live in the Netherlands. GPS gets stuck. Apps like sportstracker or gps speedmeters don't get a fix. If you start nokia maps then it does get a fix but when you drive it updates veeeery sluggish. Speed is not measured at that time.

A soft reset of the phone fixes this issue. Every app works again.

I guess it mis a Lumia 900 issue.

Re: Lumia 900 GPS issue (Netherlands)

I have a same issue with my lumia 900, i have used other apps without issues with GPS. But nokia drive
works only for some ten minutes and then GPS is lost.
Only way to have GPS available for other apps is sort reset.

I live on Finland.

My wife has lumia 800, it works ok.

Is your carrier KPN by any chance? They don't support automatic Date/Time adjustment! You have to do it manually.

Re: Lumia 900 GPS issue (Netherlands)

I have the same problem with losing GPS signal in Nokia drive but not in the other apps (ex Bing maps) on my lumia 900. This problem occurred in USA and Canada. Update to Nokia drive 3.0 did solve the problem. Got wp7 update today but didn't test Nokia drive dine then. I think that the issue is with recovery the GPS signal when lost.

Re: Lumia 900 GPS issue (Netherlands)

I am having the same issue and I live in the USA. I don't think that this is a location based issue as I took my phone to Jamaica and the same issue occured. The only way to get my GPS to work with any map based application is to power cylce the phone. I did a warranty exchange and I am on my third phone now so I am pretty sure that it is a bug that needs to be addressed. My other two friends with the Lumia 900 can also replicate the issue. Nokia, please feel free to contact me for details/additional info! Let's get this fixed!

Re: Lumia 900 GPS issue (Netherlands)

I have this problem ever since buying Lumia 900 in July, happened in Austria, Slovakia, Czech republic and Croatia where I frequently travel. Right In the middle of trip after hour or so, GPS SIGNAL LOST  ( than starts counting minutes ).unacceptable

I tried all sorts of combination without success, finally putting phone offline, working purely on GPS and it seemed fine for one trip ( from Austria to Croatia ) , but return trip the same signal lost, regardless offline or online,, location on/off .( not to mention how many times I had to stop trying to fix / change settings )

Is there a fix or  I should return the phone altogether ( no need for new Lumia 900 as many have the same problem ) ,  ??

Thanks

Re: Lumia 900 GPS issue (Netherlands)

Hi,

Same problem here. Just got a replacement device last week. At first it seemed to work but today the problem occurred again. Tested earlier also with Navigon trial version but the GPS signal was lost and only rebooting the device helped.

So no software fix for this bug yet and changing the device did not help either. I hope this is not some hardware design fault or bad GPS chip choice. When using Sports Tracker the GPS accuracy seems to be poor.

Too bad since otherwise the Lumia 900 is a great device.

Re: Lumia 900 GPS issue (Netherlands)

Bought the lumia 900 because I couldn't live without Nokia GPs when my N8 went into Nokia Care for repairs, and it was (and still is) such a beautiful looking device. But must say, Nokia Drive on the Lumia 900 is such a letdown, almost unusable : as many road junctions have no voice navigation and no visual zoom-in. It certainly mars the reputation of Nokia's strength in mobile GPs which is the primary differentiating factor for me in choosing Nokia so far..

Re: Lumia 900 GPS issue (Netherlands)

I don't have this problem in my own country (Singapore) but it happens whenever I go to other country. Everytime when I drive my car cross the border from Singapore to Malaysia and then suddenly the gps is lost. I do not have data roaming in other country. Is it because of that?
