Lumia 900 ISSUES

[ Edited ]

Okay I hate to do this, but what the hell is Nokia doing?

I've been playing around with the 900 (AT&T) since I received it this afternoon. Nokia I'll ask again what the hell are you guys doing? The 900 has a number of issues that should not exist because they [Nokia] had more than enough time to iron things out with the 800. Right off the bat I noticed the follow problems with this phone:

  1. The brightest setting on the 900 is almost identical to the 'medium level' brightness on the 800.
  2. The capacitive touch buttons when lit looks "dirty". It never matches the brightness level of the screen.
  3. There is a lag on the screen when scrolling. And someone with three (3) different review units verified this.
  4. The output volume level is terrible when compared to the 800. Edit: It is NOT the speaker that is the issue, it is the 3.5mm jack -- headphones port. The output level is extremely low.
  5. Photos taken on the 900 are terrible, worse than the 800. Photos have a green tint to them in the middle.

Nokia REALLY needs to do better. Hire a few people that can perform quality tests on these phones before they come to market. Perception is everything and if MS and Nokia would like to push millions of units they should come correct. It just takes a few people to start complaining and if anti-MS tech blogs (MANY) gets hold of it, Nokiaand MS will die a slow death in the mobile market  in the US.

To me these are silly mistakes that should NOT happened. I have been using an 800 on AT&T since Nov. '11 which was also plagued with a bunch of problems. My biggest fear is that if Nokia addresses these problems, AT&T will not push out any updates in a timely manner.

I'm very DISAPPOINTED and I'm a Windows Phone user from day one. Other OEMs are making **bleep** HW, but on the software side they make few mistakes.

Re: Lumia 900 ISSUES

I just got mine today, this thing is huge compared to the 800. The thing w/ the captive buttons, I see that. Maybe they did that to save battery life. I tried out the camera and took a few shots. Photos were ok. front facing camera is a plus. I haven't tried out the audio yet. I still need more time w/ the phone. My only complantso far is it doesn't fit my scion phone holder. I'm gonna have to figure something out. I also wish it came w/ a silcone case and a pair of headphones, like the 800 did. I just gotta mess w/ the phone more to get used to it.

Nokia phones (Owned 1999-Now):
5110, 3390, 3520, 6230, 6682, N72, 5800 XM , Lumia 800, Lumia 900 (Currently owned)

Re: Lumia 900 ISSUES

I am noticing the same lag like feeling with the screen. It is obvious trying to scroll around, playing games like deblob, dragging tiles in spell it or even typing. The best way I can describe the feeling is to compare it to resistive touch screens versus capacitive ones. Even screen accuracy seems off a bit.

Re: Lumia 900 ISSUES

Since the update, my in call volume is extremely low, cannot hear in even a mid noise environment. For me this is a speaker volume problem.

I've also noticed the same low volume problem when used through my car's Bluetooth system. Phone is at 10 (full volume) and with the car speaker at max, I'm still straining to hear while driving.

The volume issues here are probably all related somehow with the update.

Re: Lumia 900 ISSUES

the battery life on this sucks big time...  and AT&T is going to charge me to exchange for different phone and I have had it less than 30 days....  I am not happy with battery life... in two hours of NO USAGE...sitting idle, it has already drained 38% of the battery. I have things turned off, I have it set for Battery saver and still it drains the battery extremely fast.  What else can I do... I can't afford to have a phone that drains the battery life this fast... this is unacceptable!!!!!

thank you

Re: Lumia 900 ISSUES

@Punjab Sis: I don't have any issues with battery life on the 900, thank god. You should call ATT 800 number and they may ship you a new one.  YOu may want to also look into 'background' apps -- this is a serious battery drain.

Go to Settings -----> Applications (swip right) -----> backgound tasks; turnoff those apps that uses this feature that aren't really using it. Example: USA Today uses this feature, but it doe not work with the app. Good luck.

Re: Lumia 900 ISSUES

WTH?!

Why is my experience on Nokia's phones different from other OEMs? On EVERY OTHER WP OEM device I can adjust the volume while the screen is off, but not on the 900.

On EVERY OTHER OEM device I can turn on 'anti-shake' in the camera app, but NOT on any of Noika's devices.

WTH?!

Re: Lumia 900 ISSUES

I preordered the Nokia Lumia 900 from AT&T. The phone had data connectivity issues. Took them back AT&T support was not willing to change but eventually did. The new phone had color issues (purple keypad when you set brightness to low), other phones did not show this behavior. AT&T store wanted to charge me USD 35 for replacement but when I argued, they gave me another phone, which shuts down by itself every now and then and does not restart. AT&T wont exchange and I have a lemon on hand. Can someone help? I loved NOKIA and got into enough arguments with iPhone, Samsung and HTC lovers... am I wrong? Everything until now indicates I AM WRONG. HOPE I AM NOT... NOKIA has promise but with lemons like the one I have... I'm not so sure. HOPE SOMEONE CAN SOLVE MY PROBLEM FOR GOOD.

Re: Lumia 900 ISSUES

This is shocking I pr ordered my 900 2 weeks ago here in the uk .I,m with you nokia have had months to sort these problems out  most of these issues were on the 800 yet they have done nothing to fix them.If this phone does arrive with any of the above issues then its galaxy s2 droid for me.

The phone is going back end of .I'm not sure how they think this can be a new beginging for them if they keep producing phones with so many issues.

Come on Nokia get this sorted.I've been a loyal nokia user since 1999 but time running out

.Looks alone will not sell a phone.

Just one last point please read info on the web regarding updates that really is worrying.

Thank you Michaels... I received terrible support from ATT and ended up returning a phone I wanted to keep. I guess Lumia 900 and I were just not meant to be together...

Re: Lumia 900 ISSUES

I have a white lumia 900 which I got a week ago. My only issue is when I'm on a voice call, the person on the other line is put on hold. This has happened several times. Sometimes the call goes on speaker. And the most annoying of all is when the call gets dropped. Is anyone else having the same issues?

Re: Lumia 900 ISSUES

Michaels - my followup email:

---

"Mark,

Thank you for your email...

I am from India and love Nokia. Every device I have owned had been a NOKIA before I got onto ATT here in US (chose the iPhone4 since there was no NOKIA device). When I hear the announcement for LUMIA... I was excited like a little baby who's found his/her favorite toy. Then the wait began and **bleep** over 6 months I was hoping to use the LUMIA 900 but sadly... it is still a hope. I had to replace the 900 three times for various faults (DATA & vibrate rattle on the first; pinkish keyboard and camera issues on the second & finally switching off intermittently). Despite wanting to sport an error free LUMIA and going through the pains, I am currently without one. With the last one ATT did not agree for a replacement, I've had to return the faulty device.

Three weeks later, yesterday, I have put in another order (cost my pocket another $100) hoping that the devices received in the newer shipment may not have problems. I hope I am right in standing by a company I have truly loved and admired.

Since, ATT has not been very helpful and your mail gives me suggestions on where to send my device if it has problems. What happens to my business calls and who is responsible for lost business during the period during which my device is with NOKIA care? Thats not a solution for me it is something to be scared of in my humble opinion.

Your mail instead of giving me the confidence that action or steps will be taken for the partner to ensure all NOKIA customers have a working device. If the partner cannot help, the customers should be hearing NOKIA will stand up by its CUSTOMERS as CUSTOMERS are standing by NOKIA... and will ensure that each one of their customers will have a device they can rant about. But that is not what I am hearing. Am I?

Again, I have admired and been a loyal customer for years. I hope I get a LUMIA 900 which is devoid of problems. If the new device is also plagued with problems; it will then be depend on the seriousness of problems, I may decide to stick with or say good bye to NOKIA.

Thank you again for your time.

Much appreciated.

Habib

Re: Lumia 900 ISSUES

For the watchful eyes... while I did not appreciate that my last two messsages were removed. I finally have an update which shows that NOKIA is behind its hero phone... The new LUMIA 900 I got from ATT also has purple hue problem and battery drains faster than normal. I had given up & was not planning to contact anyone this time but I was surprised.

Yesterday, I was contacted by NOKIA and in the process of sending me a device which would be error free. Thank you NOKIA for I had almost lost faith.
