Michaels did you pass the information about the fact that both Rogers and AT&T provide unlocking services to your North American counterparts? Any response from them as to getting the Network Setup accessible in the North American markets?

Any news about the situation, it's very annoying that my MMS doesn't work... when we do it legit with the provider and the cell phone !!
I think, they could resolve the situation very fast by re-adding the app....

Hi all!
Good feedback on this thread, but please respect the Forum guidelines and keep the conversations strictly within the topic. It does feel very annoying when there are questions or issues without clear answer but I can assure you that your voice has been heard and passed forward. Please don’t provoke other users to inappropriate comments, as main purpose of this forum is to troubleshoot and support issues related to Nokia products and services. Hopefully we all understand this and continue discussions with a polite tone to one another.
Regards,
Harmanni

I agree that people should keep it clean hope you agree that yes it is frustrating since the Network Setup app available and then it was removed and this whole thread could have been avoided with an easy process of putting it back online so people who need it can use it.
Thanks for passing it along but some feed back as to when it will be back online would be nice.

Got this response from a Nokia rep in the US when I tweeted about the Network Setup App.
"it should be published soon. I believe that it's already gone through technical approval on our side."
Here is hoping this is true and we'll see it soon.
2012-05-17 9:43
Hopefully that's true. I'm waiting (impatiently) for this app to be published. I'm yet another Lumia 900 owner on Straight Talk. I would love for my MMS to work ![]()

I agree I just bought a Lumia 900 and am a straight talk user as well. I have never had this issue prior on any .. "competitors devices" My new sim will be here early next week. I am afraid if there isn't a definite solution posted as to when this will be working I am going to go back to the "competitors OS" as well. WIsh I would have known this was prior as I feel like MMS is a 2004 feature and have had it on my last 10 phones...why would my 2012 phone not have this ability?
2012-05-20 14:17
It's been over a month already. Any further word on the availability of the Network Profile App? It's impossible for me to recommend the Lumia to people looking for a new smartphone when it doesn't even have the ability to do MMS.
This is a huge flaw in Windows Phone itself and really needs to be included in the basic core functions of the OS. Being at the mercy of a MMS editing app that can be yanked from the marketplace at any given moment isn't good enough - especially when it takes this long to correct the problem.

Not really a reason plus it's already been stated that both AT&T in US and Rogers in Canada will legitimately unlock the phones plus the fact that anyone can order a fully unlocked model from a site and use it in the US or Canada.

This is ridiculous, this isn't a microsoft issue. This is a Nokia issue, regardless of AT&T restrictions set forth, there is no reason for the app to not be available in the US/Canada regions with the "reason" being mms settings are read from the sim card. Every other phone manufacturer with a windows phone has an app to do such and they are on AT&T as well. What is making things worse is the fact that Nokia can't give a straight answer, all this delaying is making Nokia look terrible, I can no longer recommend this phone to anyone as it can't do what a dumb phone can do.
I understand Nokia needed a partner to get back in the US but being at the mercy of AT&T isn't going to do it. Apple doesn't even allow AT&T to put their logo on their phone, and apple charges AT&T more for their phone than Nokia does, much more. If this isn't resolved soon, I like many others will start considering another phone vendor to replace this phone.

When Nokia were made aware of that they entered discussions with their strategic partners in these markets and hopefully the app should be made available soon enough. I don't have to explain to people living in the birthplace of litigation how delicate these apparently simple issues are. Especially when the existence of a company is at stake.

Is this a Microsoft, Nokia or AT&T issue? A first I thought it is a MS issue as MS controls the Marketplace and what apps are available there.
I don't think Nokia is the obstacle. As the company's survival depends primarily on the U.S. market Nokia would be last to enrage U.S. customers.
If it isn't MS then it remains AT&T being the stumbling block. This loophole in not being able to change MMS settings (an oversight by MS which was corrected by an app) is now being exploited by AT&T to make it difficult for users to change carrier.
The problem with this reasoning is, "Can AT&T control what apps get put in the Marketplace?" I don't know but my suspicion now comes back to MS as being deaf and insensitive to Nokia's pleas.

It's hard to say since we don't get any straight answers. Given the fact that it used to be in the marketplace and then pulled along with the fact that all other Windows Phone 7 device manufactures (with phones on those same carriers) have solutions available in the marketplace, I'm going to guess it's a Nokia problem.
It could be something as dumb as removing it because they figured all phones are locked so it would eliminate possible support calls from people with locked phones that don't understand it's actually intended purpose.

So if anyone in north america is waiting for this settings app, here is a official response from nokia "customer care"
Thank you for emailing the Nokia Canada Careline.
In response to your e-mail, we would like to verify if you are using Rogers network. If you are not using Rogers, we are sorry to inform you that we are unable to guarantee Internet tethering to work with other service providers since you need to have the correct SIM card settings.
In line with this, we are sorry to inform you that in markets where the Lumia phones are sold only as carrier specific versions, the network set-up application is not available because the phone already comes pre-configured with the correct settings for your network.
However, you may manually add your network service provider's access point into your Nokia Lumia 900. Please note that when you “Add APN”, we would like to inform you that MMS service will not work unless you reset your Nokia Lumia 900 before you “Add APN”.
If you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact us again. To ensure proper handling of your case, kindly continue using the current subject line.
You may check out all the phones and accessories at www.nokia.ca. For further inquiries, please call us at 1-888-226-6542 and we will definitely be of assistance in finding the product for you.
Thank you for your e-mail.
Kind regards,

So they are clearly bending to the carrier's wishes and we will never see this app come to us.
