I know this issue has been posted before, but I wanted to see if there are any updates. There was a firmware update to fix the purple hue problem, and was hoping this that this issue would be resolved along with it, but no such luck. The external speaker cannot get quieter than 7/30. Anything below that seems to do little or nothing. The alarms are scary loud even at 1/30. I can't turn music at work because even the lowest volume is WAY too high.

The other problem is that the volume out of the headphone jack is way too soft. I have to bring the volume up to 30/30 to not have to crank the volume to a deafening level in the car, for example. If I forget to bring the volume down to 1/10 when I get out of the car, I get startled by a loud notification. It's a constant game of going from 1/30 to 30/30 and back to 1/30. It is very frustrating! Can we expect a fix for this sometime soon?

I totally agree with you. Speaker volume level is so loud that all apps with sound (like Nokia Music etc) are useless without headphones. Hopefully this will be fixed asap. I have had to return to use my previous phone in some times due to sound level issue.

I agree there is a volume bug on the Lumia 900 - I have had my black Lumia for about 5-6 days now. I used my previous phones as my alarm in the morning and wanted to continue to do the same with this device. With the preinstalled alarms app, regardless of whether I have the volume at 1/30 , 15/30 or 25/30, when the alarm sounds it is incredibly loud. Not a very good way to wake up in t he morning so I am currently still using my IPhone as my alarm clock. Let's get a bug fix out for this Nokia; I am having to use a 3GS to pick up your slack.

I was surprised the first time I was checking the different ringtones, I set to 1 and still the volume is too loud.

Any news about this on the nokia side?  It should be easy fixed with an update, because it should be a software related issue.

Talked to a Nokia support via online chat, the guy is clueless about what I meant even though this issue has been posted a many forums.

I updated my 900 with the latest patch and still volume 1/30 very loud. Maybe someone from Nokia should also read these forums to get these problems fixed...

Yeah same, just upgraded from Focus to Lumia 900. The volumes are all messed up, key taps too soft, headphones too soft alarms too loud. I like in WP7 how alarm volume is independent and increases with times, this worked well on my Focus, but on this phone it startles me awake and I had to test it a view times just to make sure it gets louder if you ignore it. And it does, but too little too late!
I like the simplicity of only one volume control but c'mon Nokia... Get it right for those 4 million handsets out there! I'ma go twit at 'em.

It is now November just received the lumia 900. Speaker too loud headphones waayyyy too low! Has this been fixed? If so, what do I do? I am contemplating switching to iphone if there is no fix to this problem. I need my music loud at the gym and this is disappointing.

Will this sound problem be an issue for the new lumia 920?

So this problem has been reported since the phone launched, and here we are now with 7.8, and the problem is still there. Level 1 on volume is way too loud. I would not have purchased this phone had I known ahead of time. Can we please at least get an update on this?
