Lumia 920 4g?

[ Edited ]

I see that the phone will only connect the the G3 network. What about G4? When will that be offered? There is no point in upgrading to a Lumia 920 without being able to connect to G4

I suppose you actually mean 3G and 4G, as these standards are more popularly known. I would strongly suggest that you first read carefully the detailed data sheets of both 820 and 920, since I cannot believe you have missed this bit:

Data Network Data bearers2

  • HSPA+ (3G)
  • EDGE/EGPRS (2G)
  • FD-LTE (4G)
  • HSUPA (3G)
  • GSM (2G)
  • HSDPA (3G)
  • WCDMA (3G)
  • Dual Transfer Mode (2G)

Operating Frequency Bands

  • GSM 850
  • GSM 900
  • GSM 1800
  • GSM 1900
  • WCDMA Band V (850)
  • WCDMA Band VIII (900)
  • WCDMA Band II (1900)
  • WCDMA Band I (2100)
  • LTE 800
  • LTE 900
  • LTE 1800
  • LTE 2100
  • LTE 2600

In fact, these handsets so far are unique in offering penta-band LTE support, i.e. effectively worldwide support even in markets where 4G/LTE networks have only been approved and are not even functional yet.

Re: Lumia 920 4g?

for those in the USA, if you are on Tmobile, the list obviously omits 1700 :smileysad:

Thier LTE is not scheduled to launch until early 2013, though some may be up but not announced. :smileywink:

Re: Lumia 920 4g?

What the datasheets listing the supported frequency bands do not say is, whether there'll be different hardware variants for different regions (e.g., North America vs. Europe) with different radio technologies (e.g., U.S. models where the LTE will only work on U.S. networks, but not in Europe, and vice versa).

Re: Lumia 920 4g?

I hope the Lumia 920 is not exclusive to EE, they are a terrible network, I have been with them, worst customer service every, i hope O2 and Vodafone get it, even if they haven't got 4G, they will have it in Februrary, but i want the Lumia 920 now as my upgrade is now and i want to get rid of my iPhone 4s

Re: Lumia 920 4g?

Looking the U.S. AT&T Nokia Lumia 920 specs it isn't surprising it doesn't look like an unlocked version will work on TMobile. However, there is a  global Nokia Lumia 920 on Nokia's web site that looks like it will work unlocked on TMobile.

I'm thinking about getting an unlocked phone so I can take advantage of a cheap TMobile month by month plan ($30 with 100 minutes/unlimited text/unlimited data). Sure, I could get the Nokia Lumia 810 they just announced for TMobile but I'd prefer the better phone. In fact, I might end up sticking with Android because I'm not really interested in a mid-range phone.

Am I right the global version is fully compatible with TMobile (specs below) and will an unlocked version be sold in the U.S.?

Operating Frequency Frequency bands

  • GSM 850
  • GSM 900
  • GSM 1800
  • GSM 1900
  • WCDMA Band V (850)
  • WCDMA Band VIII (900)
  • WCDMA Band IV (1700)
  • WCDMA Band II (1900)
  • WCDMA Band I (2100)
  • LTE 700
  • LTE 800
  • LTE 850
  • LTE 900
  • LTE 1700
  • LTE 1800
  • LTE 1900
  • LTE 2100
  • LTE 2600

Data speed - Upload

  • HSUPA Cat 6 - 5.76 Mbit/s
  • LTE Cat 3 - 50 Mbit/s

Data speed - Download

  • LTE Cat 3 - 100 Mbit/s
  • EGPRS MSC 12 - 236.8 kbit/s
  • HSDPA Cat 24 - 42.2 Mbit/s

Re: Lumia 920 4g?

tmo has just purchased metro pcs, and in some areas, has already turned on 1900mhz.

:smileyhappy:

this is good for us.

they have already started migrating the current 3g to the 2g bands and in that process are starting to eliminate the 2g services.

Re: Lumia 920 4g?

Well, I get to answer my own question. According to Pocketnow the Nokia web site is in error. There is no 700MHz AWS T-Mobile support for the Lumia 920.

I realize T-Mobile, even after the MetroPCS merger, is only the 4th largest carrier in America but it looks like from the get-go the Lumia 920 snubbed them. For a company on the brink of bankruptcy this puzzles me. You're still talking over 30 million subscribers and it's the only carrier where Nokia doesn't have to worry about going toe to toe with the iPhone!

Since no Lumia 910 was announced with the T-Mobile ho-hum midrange 810 it's safe to assume Nokia isn't really serious about selling phones to T-Mobile. Sprint is snubbing Windows Phone 8 entirely. That means Nokia has put most of its Lumia eggs and all of its 920/Verizon variant in only 2 carriers (yes, I realize they're the largest). I hope the marketing genius behind this swift move doesn't expect a fat bonus check. :w00t:

What was a slam dunk I'm dumping my Android for a Lumia 920 is slowly deteriorating into I'm kinda of leaning that way but it all depends on how much my enthusiasm continues to ebb. Too bad.

Re: Lumia 920 4g?

Can someone from Nokia confirm or deny this?  Every Symbian/MeeGo smartphone from Nokia released for the last two years or more has supported T-Moble USA's 3G.  Will the Lumia 920 really buck that trend?

Re: Lumia 920 4g?

I revisited to see if anyone replied from Nokia (fat chance, eh? :smileywink:).

Anyway, I see I made a big typo in my previous post so it's not only Nokia posting errors. It's the 1700MHz AWS spectrum that's not supported by the global version of the Nokia Lumia 920, not 700MHz. If you read the PocketNow link my mistake is pretty obvious.

The overall point remains: the evidence points to Nokia completely snubbing T-Mobile with a high-end Lumia 9xx device.

Re: Lumia 920 4g?

The Lumia 920 variants announced so far are an AT&T-specific variant for the US, a Rogers equivalent for Canada and the "Rest of the World" version.

Currently, the only information we have of supported frequencies is that whis is shown on the relevant country-specific web sites. If further versions were to be announced in the future, specifications would be communicated at the time.

Re: Lumia 920 4g?

I don't know whether the Lumia 920 will only be available on EE once the other networks launch their 4G LTE services. Anyone got any ideas? This might help I don't know:

Re: Lumia 920 4g?

I believe (though don't quote me exactly), that EE has exclusivity for the next 6 months or so in the UK on the 920, after that, any other carrier can sell it through themselves. Its locked to their network, and if thats not up your alley, you can always purchase an unlocked variant from online retailers / get it imported etc.

Re: Lumia 920 4g?

Just spoke to EE and 4G does not work on Windows Phone 8.  Microsoft Bug evidently.  What is worse it that when it gets a 4G signal it cuts you off the network completely.

Re: Lumia 920 4g?

I find that hard to believe since there are several people in this forum who are using 4G on EE with 920s and none of them has reported such an issue. I have seen even speed tests shared by some of them.

Re: Lumia 920 4g?

So do I but that's what we were told when we raised a fault with EE yesterday.

Can anyone confirm that they are getting 4G on EE?

Re: Lumia 920 4g?

I can confirm this. I've run tests in Liverpool, Hull, Southport and Chorley and had varying kinds of speeds, the best being in Chorley with, if memory serves, 25mbps down and 15mbps up. Voice was fine too.

When on a 4G network, the 920 does, however, drain the battery pretty quickly. I wouldn't expect to get more than maybe 18 hours out of a full charge doing nothing. Maybe 12 hours if you're lucky with moderate use.

Lumia 920 4g?

Hi! I do have a question for you guys. A friend of mine gave me a Nokia 920 in the states. He said it worked just fine and was factory unlocked, it is something I checked and seems to be ok. But when I bought it down to Uruguay (southamerica) I could not make it work. Had the right micro sim card but the phone would not recognize it. When I got to the model info, got this: rm-820_nam_canada_246 So does it mean it is a canadian phone? Then I when to the full spec I found it only works on LTE

See the US spec; http://www.nokia.com/us-en/products/phone/lumia920/specifications/    Is that possible? It means it won´t work on a 3G 850 band? there are MANY places in the world without LTE.-
Thank you!

Re: Lumia 920 4g?

That page doesn't say anywhere that it will ONLY work on LTE. The 920 will also work on GSM/3G networks (850, 900, 1800 and 1900MHz GSM, 850, 900, 1900 and 2100MHz 3G) but not CDMA as far as I know. If CDMA is what is prevalent in Uruguay then you're out of luck. This said, the fact that you got a SIM tends to suggest GSM/3G.

Have you been able to get the same µSIM working in another phone? Are you sure the 920 you've been sent is unlocked?
