So I took my black AT&T 920 camping this weekend to really test some night time pictures. Well I got some great shots, but upon further examination half of them didn't save.
I don't know why this happened but after loosing at least 4 night shots I am convinced it's not user error; And several of my friends saw these images while I was quick viewing them.

It is worth noting that my phone was in airplane mode, we had no service, and I do not have my images set to upload to skydrive. (Not that it should have made a difference there.)

Has anyone else experienced this? This is very disturbing to me.

Have you tested this by taking more random pictures?

i would usually say its user error but if its a few pictures you would have realised you'd done something wrong after the first one.

if it was a one off it could have been a temporary glitch caused by a download that needed a reboot after install

I haven't found any pattern, other than it happens when I have quick viewed the images.

I just don't see how it's user error. One accidently deleted, after hitting the elipse, yeah. But a whole series of pictures...

So far I haven't been able to reproduce it. I'll try turning on airplane mode later.

Tried turning the phone into airplane mode. Still haven't been able to recreate the issue.

So I found the photos after I connected my phone to my PC.

Even though I can view them in windows exporer I still can't see them on my phone.

I also noticed the thumbnail preview doesn't work on my PC, istead the stock JPG image shows up.

Any ideas? This is strange because the phone took the photos.

Indeed weird, i would suggest backing up all personal data first. And then performing a soft reset (pressing volume down and power button togethers until phone vibrates). If that doesn't work, then either perform a hard reset, or go into Settings > About > Reset your phone (this will delete all data).

If none of those work, then you will need to take your phone to your local Nokia Care or AT&T to get a replacement, or for them to inspect.
