Just got a white 920 a few days ago, loaded it up w/ 5203 VBR *.wma files from my collection to play. I had come from a Samsung Focus S WP7.8 which is half the storage, I could get about 3000 songs on it.
Anyhow, I go to 'Music + Video' to collection and press the play triangle at the bottom and it takes upwards of 25 seconds to begin playing a song, and then about another 20 seconds to display that songs album art and meta data. During this time controls are unresponsive.
My Focus S started playing immediately, granted w/ 2000 less songs, but still.
Wanted to come here to Nokia forums first vs. MSFT. Anyone else w/ large local collections seeing this slowdown? Thanks -

Hi John_IV,
Welcome to the forum! ![]()
Is it happening to all of your songs? Try rebooting the phone just to refresh it.

Hello, I've done the soft reset and it is taking aprox. 47 seconds from the time I press the play button at the bottom of Muisc + Videos (this will play all songs on the device) to the time I get the album art of the first song to play and return of controls. This is w/ 5000+ *.wma songs.
Note that the audio starts playing quicker after the soft reset, takes about 6 seconds to get audio.
I'd hope Nokia did some load/limit testing on larger local collections. ![]()

Hello there, I just upgraded from a Nokia Lumia 900 to a 920 yesterday and put in my collection (which is around 500 songs) and it takes me about 10 seconds for the music to play and 15 for the album information to show up whenever I want to play a song. It's really infuriating and I tried resetting, deleting my collection and re-adding, turning on off, soft reset and just about anything else. I'm sure the problem lies within the software both on the LUmia and the OS itself. Is there any fix for this?

Ok, I went ahead and the did the hard reset on the phone.
Did not change the speed at which control is returned to the phone and images are displayed when playing a large number of songs.
1. Press play icon at bottom of Music + Vidoes to play all songs (6000+ VBR *.wmas) = 21 seconds to hear audio, 73 seconds to have control returned to phone and display now playing info.
2. Press play on pinned start tile to play Depeche Mode collection (1000 songs) = 2 seconds to audio, 15 seconds to control returned to phone and display now playing info.
Am I out of line thinking this speed is very poor? These phone have faster CPUs (and presumably the memory) than the Focus S they're replacing but slower to launch songs. The Samsung Focus S kicked off the music audibly, returned control to the phone, and showed the now playing images immediately.

Someone at MSFT answers saying it's a known OS issue. Hrm, then it must have happened between 7.8 and 8.
Ah well, if that is indeed the case hopefully a patch can address it.
