I haev had my Lumia for a few months now. I love my camera, but have realised I can't seem to work out how to use the front camera.

I searched today and found that there should be an icon in the bottom left ocrner when the camera is on. I have the movie camera but not the other icon to change to front camera.

Is there some setting that is not right. I have looked through all posts making sure camera software is up to date. I have turned the phone off and then restarted. And have also reset the camera settings? But nothing.

I don't want to reset the whole phone cos i don't want to loose everything that is on it.

I even downloaded skype to see if that could get it to work, but it still wont come on?

the front camera option should be present in the native camera interface, it is on mine. have you tried a soft reset (pressing the voluem down and power buttons together until the phone vibrateS)? if that doesn't work, then unfortunately sounds like you will need to make a hard reset on the phone (Settings > About > Reset your phone) which will wipe all your personal data. Please bear in mind that it will wipe all your personal data, so please make a backup of all personal data first to PC / online storage.

Failing that, you will need to take your phone to your local nokia care for them to inspect: http://nokia.com/support

I did a back up today so all my photo's etc will now be in Zune. 

Can you tell me does my calendar and all my contacts are they backed up in windows live?

if you have a Microsoft account to set up your phone then yes it will all be backed up automatically. though to be sure i would go into the Settings, Email + Accounts and tap and hold on Microsoft account and select Sync.

I'd investigate other altenatives before resorting to such a drastic action as performing a hard reset.

Have you taken your phone into your nearest cellphone or Nokia shop, or asking another Lumia user? Should be a simple matter of them showing you how to access the front camera.
