I love to take a walk in the nature but a few times I had to look for my car afterwards.
Once even for more than two and a half hour.
Can I with the Nokia Lumia offline:
A/ When I park the car put the present location in the Lumia as favourite or POI ?
B/ Afterwards find the car with or without the help of the compass ? (I don't expect all the forrest paths are on the map).
A Tom-Tom for instance will navigate me to the nearest road and these I want to avoid.

This is exactly what I want, too. The old Symbian OS (on Nokia 5800 XpressMusic) has a very nice little app 'Location' for GPS navigation. You find your location, save it as a place and start walking. When it's time to find your way back to the car or whatever, wake up the phone, set your destination as the saved place (in 'GPS Data') and the compass will point you there. No maps necessary, just keep following the arrow and line it to the hotspot on the compass. Anyone know of an app that will do this on Lumia 610?

Since there comes no answer I suppose it is not possible with the Lumia.
Would Symbian do the job ?
For instance with the Nokia 701 ?

As 'RasRas' stated , I can't find any witch works offline.
My walks in the nature brings me also on places where I don't have any signal.

If walking off-road so to speak I often use http://www.sports-tracker.com/
Can download from the Marketplace
But I think it's available in 'Drive' - If you save current location when you park up, you can then 'navigate' to it later.

Yes it is possible to save location.
Let Nokia Drive find your location, then press option button (3 lines, bottom right) then you get an option to 'Save Location'

Hoi Rich
Thanks for the reply.
When I want to go back to my car can I zoom out to see my position and the saved position and determine wich direction I had to go ?
Maybe it is possible to show a compass and turn the map to the north ?
Or does the map itself not show what is north ?
(Sorry for my English)

Yes you can zoom out to see both, not sure about direction / compass piece. You may want to just go and test it locally to see what works best for you.
In settings, you may also need to have Landmarks set to show/on.
At the end of the day though, if you are such a committed walker, you should probably take the usual precautions too (eg map and compass!)
Using 'Drive' for this sort of thing should be a quick alternative!

Thanks rasras for the excellent tip. You can find the app in Marketplace using this link. You can also scan the QR code below;
If this option is not available to you download the app Esponce QR Reader or QR Code Reader as an alternative.

Nokia 701 has real offline navigation with offline maps. Straight line pedestrian navigation and map rotating with compass are some of the features. Overall Nokia Maps (Symbian) is way better than Nokia Maps (Lumia). I strongly recommend anyone who think navigation is an important part of the phone to choose 701 over Lumia.

Thank you all.
I am still orientating on the possibility's before I buy a phone so I still can't try anything on the moment.
I am looking for someone with a Lumia who can try these out before I decide which phone to buy.
The reviews of the app are not so good, but nobody writes what kind of phone they have and maybe it will work well on the Lumia.

Yes, that is one of the main problems. Nokia Maps (Lumia) uses the good reputation of Nokia Maps (Symbian), although it's a much simpler app. That is very confusing.
I have a Lumia 710; I chose it because I've always been satisfied with my previous Nokias and especially the navigation. I am now very disappointed.
Except for that, with the latest updates it's a nice phone.

Not a patch on Symbian - I'll take a look at the Nokia 701.
Only for the moment. I had the opportunity to chat to a member of the Lumia Maps team not so long ago who assured me that by the time they are done doing wht they intend to, Nokia Maps and Drive will be fully integrated and work as well as on the other Nokia phones.

Much appreciate your optimism, and it would be good to see a well integrated maps app on Lumia. However, it does not address the missing Location app on Symbian - which allows simple GPS navigation without the clutter of unnecessary info pitched at those who want to drive to the nearest Starbucks or walk from Waterloo Bridge to the Imax cinema. Many of us like to walk the great outdoors well away from corporate snares; you don't really need to know where you are, just an arrow pointing back to where you started. Occam's Razor applies - look it up, it will change your life.
