Made in China

I've been waiting for months for vodafone uk to stock the 820. Finally I contacted them arranged for the upgrade. During the call I stated that I did not want one that was made in China. I have nothing against the quality but in these difficult economic times it seems right to support manufacturers that are as local as possible. Vodafone assured me that they were shipping phones made Finland.

It arrived today and I was very excited until I saw the label n the box stating that it was Made in China. I haven't opened it, it is going back.

Vodafone now say that they cannot say where the phones they supply will have been manufactured and the only option is to check with their stores to see what stock they have. It makes it very onerous for the customer to get what they want.

Is there any chance that Nokia can provide an option for their customers where they can specify that they get a local manufactured product?

At the moment I guess my old N8 will have to soldier on. If I can only get Chinese phones it takes away a major Nokia USP.

Re: Made in China

Nokia closed their Finnish factories a year or so ago if not earlier. afaik all european phones are produced in China now. In all honesty in the current market they have little choice.

I appreciate your determination, but any current phone is made in Asia today so yes, if this is an issue for you you will be 'stuck' with your N8 for quite a while..

Re: Made in China

No!!
This topic has been discussed many times here and the whole china issue is just a farce.
A phone made in china, finland or anywhere is THE SAME.All production and procedures are THE SAME the standards are THE SAME.

If  i have helped at all a click on the white star below would be nice thanks.

Re: Made in China

I am trying to get a definitive answer as to where 820s are made and which models, if any are still made in Europe (Finland, Hungary).
Thankfully I really like the N8 - over 2 years old and still brill :¬)

Re: Made in China

I've seen lots of discussions about quality etc but thats not the issue. Nokia have plants in Europe but for some reason its very difficult to get a phone that was made here.
Europe, its companies and its people have financial problems at the moment. It would be great if we could support local purchasing!

Re: Made in China

Admirable sentiment which I as a European would support but the reality is almost every phone now produced will be made in one of the countries mentioned in that link or Korea. There is one manufacturer I know of still has a plant in the US and which I can't name on here but they are the exception.

If if is of any comfort Nokia does not come in for the criticism that another manufacturer (who will be nameless) does in relation to workers' conditions.
