My data connection doesn't work on Lumia 820 might that be because of old SIM card?

Hello,

Recently I bought a Lumia 820. But my 3G or 2G data connection doesn't work. But there is interesting 2 situations:

1) My data connection works on my old cell phone with the same SIM card.

2) I tried my friends' SIM cards on my new phone and their data connection work perfectly.

So I don't have much clue what is going on. One possibility that comes to my mind is my SIM card's age. It is very very old, like ten or more years. So it might be version 1 sim card. Maybe Lumia 820 is incompatible with version 1 SIM cards?

Does anyone have any idea what might be the problem?

You have to manually define an APN, aka Access Point, if it's not automatically detected from your SIM. And you may want to try an app from Nokia, called APN, which adds an "APN" option in your settings menu and enhances your APN detection and configuration. I hope it helps.

hi mate,

i would do the full gamut and get your SIM card replaced to a new microSIM, and double-check that your network carrier data settings have been sent to you, and that your data plan is indeed activated.

also ensure as _Jovi has said, to be up-to-date with all the Nokia system apps in the Store, as he stated with the Access Point and Network+ updates. but best to download the whole lot of updates.
