I need to have access to the entire (atleast) US map data (My 808 I have the entire world maps saved !) offline and my phone says there is not enough space. REALLY ?? I have a 64GB card sitting half empty but I HAVE TO keep the map data on the already scarce 8GB ? Really ? Dang. I was just beginning to love my 820

It is well documented and has been explained and announced on a number of occasions that the SD card is available for media files only. The 808 has, as you are most likely aware, double the storage available when compared to the Lumia 820. So I am not sure where your comment is coming from but you should have informed yourself better if you have this requirement.

Quite true. Keep yourself informed of all the WP8 limitations and restrictions before you take the plunge instead of buy first, rant later.

Yes but it is not just that. Even with absolutely no apps , with a complete reset, the phone says I do not have space to download the maps ! When I go see phone storage it shows I have 5GB+ free ! So right out of box it is not suitable for offline maps , atleast not of an entire country !

Well, I checked and the full USA map set is about 1.8GB so unless there is some sort of restriction on the max space for maps it should download I would think.
I would suggest you contact Nokia Care directly as I do not know if there would be anyone here able to help you on this except for maybe trying to do the same on their 820. You can reach them by phone, mail, chat or Twitter (where available) using the 'Contact us' section on this page.

I bought this phone yesterday.. and if i try to do anything on this phone the phone memory keeps increasing. I have noticed when I download songs from Nokia music store the phone memory increases, I have already set the phone to store music and videos in SD card, when I spoke to nokia care they informed to there is a .tam file which gets downloaded along with the song and that saves in phone memory.
Thats not it. when I sync music from the laptop it increases the SD card + the phone memory.
Also I have noticed that as much as i use the phone the phone memory keeps increasing and if you check the phone storage in settings the folder (whatever you call it ) OTHER kepps filling up. I have no idea how to clean that up
Any suggession will be helpful..
Thanks in advance

The 'Other' folder cannot be manually deleted. It keeps increasing the more you use the phone so if you are running short of space try deleting unnecessary apps and maps. Unfortunately it is possible to run out of space with minimal apps and a big 'Other' folder so if you come to the stage where the phone refuse to install anything it is time for a hard reset to bring it down.

Thanks for letting me know
Microsoft should do something about this issue. We have to reset the phone every couple of months and that sucks.

The "Other" folder contains swap files and other data files such as your emails, messages and map data. The one that tends to run away and fill up the memory is map data, especially you don't delete old unused maps or if you stream your maps online. My "Other" folder has held steady for both my 920 and 820 because I only predownload the map data I require and use it offline only.
There is no need to pre-download map data just because you feel you might need it in the future because they go out of date after a few months and you will probably end up re-downloading the latest version just before you need it anyway.
Old emails also add to "Other" but not much unless you have a lot and they contain attachments.

Ok, I know what has been written and said. But anyway I don't agree! First, the memory problem of the "other" folder wasn't known. And at this stage, it is rediculous if you want to empty this folder, you have to do a hard reset. Second, not having the maps on the sd card is a mistake big time when you realize how big these maps are for the popular countries. How on earth Nokia can think to promote their Nokia (Here) maps, Drive+ etc. and safe them
in the limited phone memory of the Lumia 820, 620 etc. with the "other" folder flaw. Not really clever!!!
Apple and Samsung would have a lough
With this in mind, someone can argue it's a Microsoft thing, but at least at the switchover from wp7.5 to wp8 Nokia should have pushed Microsoft for a change. It looks for me Nokia is not anymore the company I knew from the past.

Microsoft has made statements that the issue is known and will be fixed in a future update. Meanwhile there are quite a few posts here and elsewhere offering a workaround or linking to apps which at least for now may help.
I'd suggest you try searching for 'other storage' ..

Yes Ahmad, there is. You can reset your phone to factory state to delete it.

This is not really a problem unless you intend storing plenty of files on your phone. I've been using mine half a year now and have not had any memory problems yet.
If it makes you feel any better, there isan app called Lumia Storage Check you download from betalabs.nokia.com which allows you to see exactly what your memory is doing. It also gives you the option of saving map data to the memory card if you choose to do so.

No, you don't need the phone unlocked or rooted. The storage check app is available to all free of charge from betalabs.nokia.com. There is an option within the app to save map data to memory card if you wish to do so.
I am a strong believer in non operator branded phones. Almost all my phones are non operator branded and I don't experience most of the issues I see here from branded handsets. The problem in my opinion stems from the firmware localisation carried by be the networks when branding. I have had no major issues with both my 920 and 820 and I have had them since launch last year.
I know branded handsets are cheaper to buy because they are usually subsidised but the subsidy is no more than a hire purchase agreement where the customer ends up paying for the phone anyway over the duration of the contract. IMO, better to buy your own and get a sim only tariff from your provider.
