Ok,
I received the Nokia Lumia 800 for Christmas two days ago and since then I have had little but joy from using it. Firstly my old SIM card didn't fit as it wasn't a micro-SIM and then it wouldn't connect to the Internet but those problems have been resolved. My new problem is that having only owned my brand-new phone for only TWO DAYS, I have already had to charge it overnight on the night of the 25th and the 26th having received error messages telling my phone is on critical battery life and needs to be re-charged already.
I have already checked to see if there was a solution to this problem and found that yes, 8 months ago an update was released to fix battery life problems on the Nokia Lumia 800 - but I've checked on Zune and it says my phone is fully up-to-date.
I do not know what the hell is going on, I'm used to having to struggle through battery life issues as I keep my various electrical devices for quite a while before getting a new version (I still own an iPod Touch 2nd generation after nearly 5 years), but never after just TWO DAYS of use. I realise that I have used my phone fairly excessively over the last two days but I didn't expect to have to charge it once for the next half a week at the very least, let alone twice in only two days.
Is there anything at all that I can do to try and fix the problems I have been having - I've checked and my phone is definately up-to-date according to Zune, so is there something else I can do to fix this poor battery life problem or have I simply been given a **bleep** product?
Thanks,
Luke

I got the phone for Christmas - I didn't totally know I was getting it so that idea about research is kinda dumb - I also wasn't expecting to have to deal with these kind of problems as this is the first product I have ever received that has perform so badly in such a short amount of time.
Regarding the SIM card issue - I could use my phone as a phone until the micro-SIM card had my details transferred onto it. My phone didn't work as a phone which is why it was a problem. It would still turn on it and take pictures and everything else except send texts and make calls.

Well it seems the OP is not really interested in finding out what's going on nor does he bother to even try and research this. He is just ranting.
It has been discussed here time and time again that the battery used in modern day phones will take a number of charging cycles to come to it's full capacity and the OS will also need some time to properly calibrate battery usage. This has not only been stated here and elsewhere, it has also been backed up by many posts confirming that is precisely what happens.
Also the guy comes here two days after getting the phone as a gift obviously not too knowledgeable, which is fine by itself and we'd be happy to help and explain things. But he just goes off on how xxx the phone is.
Bringing up the SIM size is just funny really and the Internet access is easily solved as he found out. He must have come from one of the older phones which were far less powerful and required less energy thus lasting longer. WIth all the extra features and more powerful hardware space for the battery did not really increase so you are basically running a bigger engine on the same size fuel tank which should make it obvious you need to top up more quickly.
He says he checked for a solution but honestly did a lousy job of it as there is far more information on this on there boards alone and he could have just asked instead of going off into a rant.
He goes on to compare to a souped up mediaplayer, admits he has made excessive use of the phone and still wonders how the battery usage is a day. Well here's a newsflash; A days use is not abnormal when you heavily use any modern day smartphone.
Then finally in the end he gets to asking an actual question to which the answer would be:
It is normal for modern day batteries to require some time to both maximize capacity and for the OS to properly calibrate battery usage and capacity. Give it a week or so and you will notice battery life to get better and better. My own Lumia 800 goes about 3 days on a charge with 24/7 data on, Wi-Fi always on and locations services on several apps as well as the Microsoft (built in) location services always on.
Just start using the phone and charge it whenever you can, it won't hurt the battery, in fact it will improve it's performance.
Come back in a month and let us know how you are getting on, I am fairly sure you'll be back saying we were right and battery life is just fine now..

this world is breading angry losers like jimmyireland these days. after missing the fact the phone was a gift which was mentioned in the very first sentence, you then go an tell him to do some research. how ironic is that? someone who can't read something right in front of him, tells the OP to do research.
if the OP doesn't have much knowledge, then tell him a few basics about smartphones and their high usage of battery power. instead you idiots just rant on with unhelpful rubbish.
be happy he's using a nokia, who make the best phones on the market, instead of one of those boring pieces of poo iphones and the overly complicated android devices. most of the stuff you guys have said are inaccurate anyway, unless you're one of those halfwits who can't stay off the phone, you should be getting at least 48 hours of battery life.
to the OP. don't know what phone you had before you lumia 800, but this phone actually has good battery life for a smartphone. if you're constantly on it, you will easily run the battery down in 1 day. turning off and back on again will drop the battery usage to under 90mA (during standby) which you can check in the diagnostic app.
turn 3g, bluetooth off. only turn them on when you need to. 3g runs your battery down quick.
