Hi,

My Noika Lumia 800's photo live tile isn't working correctly ever since I updated to 7.8. Version 7.5 everything worked fine.

What do I mean ? Well with 7.5, the live tile updated and showed my photos I had taken.

With 7.8, I noticed after the first software update was installed, that the live tile started to show the default Nokai photos (the ones with numbers in). Not the photos I've already taken.

So the live tile does update, but not using my photos. The funny thing is, is that I deleted the original Nokia photos from the phone. But the tile still displays them ! They are not on the phone !

I have removed the tile, and pinned it back again. This didn't solve the problem.

I have the latest version of software installed (7.10.8862.144).

Apart from the photo live tile not working correctly, all other tiles work fine.

Its an annoying problem, as I don't want to see the original Nokia factory photos all the time.

Any ideas ?

The update which was just released shoudl fix this. After the 7.8 update was halted because of an issue there have been two updates to the OS and the process has been restarted..

Thanks for the reply, but I already have the latest update installed. The OS version number reported is 7.10.8862.144

There is no newer version than this currently ? Am I right ?

I tried restoring the phone back to Windows Phone 7.5, which was successful. The photo tile worked correctly again. Correctly meaning that it indexed the photos that I had taken (some test photos), and showed them on the tile (shuffling them as usual).

Of course doing this was painful, as some of my apps I had installed disappeared etc.

I then let Zune perorm an update back to 7.8, which involved several updates. I noticed that after the first update, the photo tile becomes broken. Or at least this is what I could observe by looking at the main screen display of the phone between auto restarts.

I let Zune install all the updates it could. There was also a Nokia firmware update too.

But the photo tile has not fixed itself. It is showing photos that don't even exist on my phone anymore (they are the standard example photos). So the tile is clearly not indexing correctly, or/and not seeing my photos.

Please don't suggest performing a complete hardware reset. This isn't an option. I have apps, photos, SMS etc on the phone, emails etc. I don't have the time to set everything up again.

I'd like the tile to work ! Its a great feature. Everytime I use my phone, I like to see a different photo.

The funny thing is, I have two Lumia 800s. One has no problems whatsoever running 7.8. One does. The one that does is an "old" Lumia 800, which I bought quiet early when they were released (it cost a fortune !). Maybe there is a hardware difference, but I doubt it. My newer Lumia 800 I bought in autumn last year.

I'm a software engineer, so if anyone has a technical solution, don't be afraid to go in deep with your ideas.

It is well known that the indexed images shown on the tile are not updated in real time. When you add or removes photos it may be a while before they show up or get removed from the indexed images for the tile.

Yes, my working Lumia 800 that does update its photo tile doesn't do this straight away. I think after a day or so it has updated itself

The point with my other Lumia 800 (with the same software version), it doesn't show ANY of my photos, apart from the default Windows/Nokia photos with numbers, and one backdrop photo I used to use. The default photos I deleted over a year ago. They are not even on my phone, except they are being displayed by the live tile.

With release 7.8, the phone tile has NEVER updated itself on one of my Lumia's. When I add or remove photos, the tile on this Lumia 800's NEVER updates, regardless how long I wait.

The bottom line is the tile is indexing photos which I don't have on my phone. I guess it is looking at a wrong area, I presume where the default photos are stored, and not where my actual photos are stored.

Does anyone have a solution I could try ?

The thumbnails that are used for the Pictures tile on the home screen as well as the background image in the Pictures hub are set automatically when the phone starts up. If you don't want to see a particular picture anymore, just restart your phone and it will pick new ones automatically from the pictures that are now available in your picture albums or you can do it manually by opening the Pictures hub, swiping up on the application bar on the bottom and then tapping choose background or shuffle background to get a new image displayed.

That worked ! Thank you. I hadn't checked this setting, as I assumed it had not been changed. But it looks like I had done. Now the live tile shows the photos, and I'm very happy. Thanks
