1. Can I use lumia as modem for laptop with windows XP? (via USB cable or bluetooth)? How?

2. Can I use lumia as modem for laptop with Linux? (usb or bluetooth)? How?

If somethere this topic is covered - it would be nice if someone can point me link.

Answer to both 1 & 2 is no, not at the moment, but rumour has it , thet there will be an update for the Lumia 800 within the next couple of weeks that will allow tethering

Oh. This is really big flaw in that case. Tethering is solution (a kind of...) but very poor - battery life on active tetering + 3g will be... short. Very short.

I would never suspect that it can be moder phone without ability to work as modem... Even cheap phones can do it with cable...

If I woud know that early I never, ever buy this phone.
This is issue on Nokia only or general on Windows Phone?

So what is the issue ? Connect Lumia via cable that will charge the phone, but connect to web via WiFi hotspot on phone ?

Issue is - in work day, when you has to travel a lot and you work on battery laptop mainly and 3g (no wifi internet in area) + have to use wifi to connect laptop with phone, it drain your battery quick. Laptop too...

I think, I have no choice but to wait. But honestly, I'm very disapoiting in this case (Lumia 800 pretend to be "buissnes" phone, but with no modem ability and VPN this is only a pretty toy). And with micro-sim I can't longer take sim card and use it in old-phone or modem 3g...

You are making an issue of a non-issue, any phone you connect to your laptop via USB will take a charge when it is connected ? And office suite and email are superb, but obviously, there is always the option to return or exchange the handset if it does not fulfil your requirements ?

Lumia 900 will be initially support tethering while Lumia 800 may be updated to have this function.  Perhaps Nokia released Lumia 800 to meet the 3rd quarter 2011 result and some basic smart phone basic function to be updated at a later stage.

I have been hearing that Nokia is coming with an upgrade to allow tethering (using mobile as a wifi modem). When is it coming to India.

As said up there, something may be on it's way. All we can do is wait and see.

With Lumia 900 (maybe a visit to some local [Finnish?] retail store) you can actually

see the option in the settings-menu, although it's not working yet.

Another possible solution is to make Lumia 800 a wireless AP and gateway sharing the 3G connection over Wi-Fi. Any apps available in this approach??
