I've had the same problem and then discovered that you shouldnt try to switch the phone on after putting it on charge. The phone switches on by itself when it has enough power to start. So just put the cable in and it should switch on within a couple of minutes

Please charge the phone more than 10 minutes firstly, then you can disconnect the charger and power on it. Try it and I think it can be solved!

Re: Nokia Lumia 800 is completely dead

2 solutions to his phone being dead are to charge it up. Id bet my house that he's tried charging his phone up. That's about as helpfull as saying try plug in your charger when charging.

I had the same problem with my first Nokia, battery went dead and up amount of charging, button pressing, combination of button pressing or pulling/plugging the charger while pressing buttons would work. If you have tried all of that you may just have a dead Nokia.

Id return it for a working one. Have you ever had to do that to another phone, no. Even if you some how get it to work what happens next time?

Re: Nokia Lumia 800 is completely dead

I've had one sent to me (corporate) by Vodafone & have been happily using since mid December.

Given previous experiences with Windows mobile, I really wanted to hate it, & I was being pushed towards Apple.

However, I found it excellent as a phone (shock horror) and also excellent at all the other stuff that we want phones to do nowadays (barring some tech gripes with Zune & other strangeness...)

That was right up until this afternoon.

I called a colleague, and thought it was odd that I was hearing nothing....

I looked at the screen & it showed like a live call......

Then it went blank.....

And has stayed that way ever since.

The phone was fully charged first thing this morning & had at least 50% left.

I have to say, it has saddened me...I'd hoped this would be Nokia's white knight. I guess it may still turn out to be just that, but I'm not sure how many brickings it can survive....I feel the pull of the fruity ones already.... :-(

I'll let you know how I get on.

Re: Nokia Lumia 800 is completely dead

My Lumia was dead today and I put it for charging for around 2 hours and nothing. Then I googled and found how to fix it. I knew that the battery was still around 30-40%.

You can reset Lumia even if it is dead and there are two ways.

SOFT RESET: hold together power button and volume down button, few second after the phone will vibrate and turn on. All of your data on the phone will still be there. (this is the same as if you would in other phones remove the battery). IT WORKED FOR ME.

HARD RESET: hold together power button, volume down button and camerra button, this will reset the phone and ERESE ALL DATA and put your Lumia in factory mode. I hope you will not be forced to do this.

Re: Nokia Lumia 800 is completely dead

My phone battery emptied yesterday evening.  I put it on USB charge, and it showed the Nokia logo all night but never switched on.  I then tried to get it to start and now it's completely dead.  Windows Phone support on twitter who are totally useless say I should go to my carrier (who apparently know more than they do).

But I'm not in my home country for a while and don't have a phone.  Nokia knows about this problem for over a year and has done nothing about it.

They're more interested in bringing out the next **bleep** model and spending all their money on marketing.  Do they really believe that this will save the company?

I am shocked that this phone is so **bleep**.  It's like buying an expensive car, running low on fuel and then having to get the car repaired although all it should need is topping up.

Nokia will not exist by 2018 is my predection if they carry on like this, and I'll be glad to see the back of them at the moment.

As soon as my phone is """fixed""" it's going on Ebay and I'll probably just get a 100€ HTC which will not be any worse than this junk.

Re: Nokia Lumia 800 is completely dead

There have been many posts on why you should not let he battery drain completely. If you get stuck on the NOKIA logo when booting there's something else going on though. You are sure that all that happened was a full battery drain?

Anyway, I'd suggest you reset, first try a soft and if required a hard reset.

Soft reset:

  • Make sure the phone is off by pressing the power button for 10 seconds
  • Press and hold power+volume down at the same time
  • Wait for the phone to vibrate
  • Release power
  • Wait for another 10 seconds
  • Release volume down
  • Phone might vibrate, wait 5 seconds
  • power on

If this does not help you can do a hard reset by going through the same sequence but by pressing power+volume down+camera

This will do a full reset you you will need to set up the phone again when finished.

There's other options, but they can't be discussed here.
