Hi,

i bought the lumia 800 from O2 at the beggining of december and it is locked to O2, however i am using it on giffgaff but this works fine as giffgaff technically runs through O2 anyway. I am aware the new update (7.8) is now availble does the fact that i am using giffgaff on an O2 locked phone mean that i will not be able to get the new update? 

my current version is 7.1 which Zune is saying is the latest version?

Using a different sim or indeed no sim at will should not affect update notification. What sounds even more unusual is the fact that it isn't even on WP7.5. I suggect uninstalling and reinstalling Zune on your pc to see if that makes any difference. You should at least be getting WP7.5 even if Wp7.8 is not available for your phone yet.

As cjlim points out it is strange that your Lumia 800 Product Code 059N205 O2 UK GB has not received 1750.0805.8773.12220 yet and whilst 1750.0823.8858.12460 is available for O2 IE not yet released for UK variant

i have just reinstalled Zune, reconnected my phone and checked for updates but i stil i have 7.10 as the latest version. is it possible that the sim may be affecting this? as it is ultimatly down to the service provider as to whether updates are pushed out to phones? 

Scoobyman: do you mean that i should be able to get 7.5 but 7.8 may not be available in the UK ?

The sim does not make any difference. In fact I updated my Lumia 800 to WP7.8 a few weeks without any sim in it. Perhaps you might want to try it without  the sim just for completeness.

All Scooby is saying is 7.5 is available but 7.8 is not yet available. All Wp7 devices will eventually get WP7.8.

It is also worth trying another computer if possible. If you continue to have problems updating, you could always get it updated at  your local Nokia Care Point.

okay well i've just tried without the sim but still nothing, so i think i'll have to take it to a nokia care point to resolve this

Nooo!!! Wp 7.1 is wp 7.5, it's strange. I know but that's the way it is, I'm on O2. Got mine in December as well but I'm still at wp 7.1(7.5) we will be getting an update sometime this month and the update will still be called 7.1 but really it's 7.1.xxxx.xxxx.xxxx (which is wp 7.8)

Well  WP 7.5 is 7.10.7720.68 and WP7.8 is 7.10.8858.136. Some phones may be on a minor update in between. You could still go to the care point if you want the 7.8 update sooner.
