just had to return two units back to Tmobile.
810 appears to have a data connection problem.
one of the floor reps has been using the phone also and has the same problem (along with store demo unit).
The phone will display 4g connection (low signal or max signal) but when you go to Internet explorer or any application which uses the data connection.
The phone will automatically go from 4g to 2g (Edge speed) or will loose the data connection completely. but will maintain voice connection perfectly.
This was a deal breaker for me had to switch back to a S3.
The 810 has one of the best voice call volumes I have used (i have a lot of phones). I was going to make it my primary daily user but the web experience was truly a problem.
Tmobile has a call in to Nokia to see if it is a known problem.
Side note: this issue occured in three different cities with great coverage bandwidth.
Anyone else experiencing the problem? Any solutions from Nokia?
Is this a Windows 8 issue or a software or a subpar antenna.

can confirm the issue on 2 Lumia 810s. Have TMous replace your Nokia for a HTC 8x. It is clear that Nokia are not what they use to be. Releasing a phone that does not have working network is a shame. Going back to HTC.

third unit same thing.
NOKIA LUMIA 810 IS A DUD.
DO NOT BUY.
travel to 3 different cities with above average connection all the same.
as soon as you try to connect any application which utilizes web connection and right to EDGE aka 2G.
do not buy.

I got 2 810s for full price and got screwed up.
please Nokia correct the problem if you want to make any market gains...
t-mobile would not replace the phone unless I cancel my whole plan. I feel like back in the days constantly looking for a WiFi
When will a Nokia rep join this discussion and explain why being silent about this failed release....

and why the update for att phones only? Nokia is turning in to new apple: buggy phones and unfair support.

I recently bought a Lumia 810 from eBay and I'm now experiencing this problem as well. No return or refunds so I'm stuck with it. Looks like we'll have to wait for a firmware update. However I've found a work around with the phone dropping from 4G to 2G making the data connection useless.
Please follow at your own risk I'm no expert
. The trick is too make the phone stay on 3G or 4G only. Factory setting is automatic so it'll switch from 2G and 4G automatically.
How to change it from automatic to 3G only:
open you phone dialer and put in ##3282# this will take you to the phones field test.
From there look at the bottom and go into setting. Click on automatic and change it to 3G (there's 4G as well however it won't stay on 4G when you leave the field test) it'll go back to automatic.
Once you've change it to 3G go back to the field test by clicking on back. Now choose 3G DCHS status from the field test. Once in let the phone do its test for about 10 seconds
finally on the same screen click on setting again and see if the setting is still in 3G. If it is then you are all set. Just exit the field test by clicking on home. The phone now will only stay on 4G it won't go back to 2G again.
This doesn't solve the problem because you'll still see your signal dropping from 3-4 bars to 1 but it won't ever go to 2G again. Until the real update or fix is around this is the only way I've found to make the phone usable. Please let me know if you have found any other way around this problem.

Have the same issue with the Nokia Lumia 810, it constantly toggles between 4G and 2G.
A typical scenario is the phone will show a 4G connection with acceptable signal strength of 3 or 4 bars, this will last for a bit then the display will show no signal strength and a switch to 2G. The phone will then stay on 2G for a minute or so then switch back, does this all day in most coverage areas. If I get into a coverage area where 4G remains at 5 bars, full strength, then it will not switch back and forth. Basically the phone must be in very close proximity to the cell tower to operate consistently at 4G, unacceptable!
This issue makes tethering a major issue since the data connection is constantly being interrupted when the toggle occurs.
My previous T-Mobile 4G Windows Phone had no issues maintaining a constant 4G signal in the same coverage area(s). So I would say this is a Lumia 810 specific issue, hopefully a firmware issue that can be rectified with an update! Hate to switch back but I need a stable phone.

Hi
to find the setting don't scroll down on the screen after after you do ##3282#, just look at the bottom right corner where you'll see three little dots and click on the dots. Another screen will pop up with setting. Click on that and then make the changes.
FYI: my phone hasn't acted up once after I have made the changes, even though the signals would drop from time to time it won't ever drop phone calls for miss a phone call or lose internet data. Matter of fact I'm actually getting cellular signal in places that my old Samsung galaxy nexus couldn't get. Such as the elevator and some dead spots in my city. Its a great phone !!

I have the exact same issue as described. I am not sure if there was an update that caused the issue cuz it was working fine when i first got the phone. My phone never goes to edge but constantly goes to 1 bar to 4 bars on 4g and nothing in between all day. People have said that my phone does not work for hours when trying to call me and I dont receive texts for hours when this happens. I will receive them hours later or days with old timestamps. Also when I have the reception issue, the multitouch does not work also.

I tried it all and have a brand new microsim card. I have pretty much every phone as i am a phone junkie. I flash roms and know how to pretty much troubleshoot any issue. I updated my phone with portico today, so i will see if that fixes the issues.

After having portico for a while, the reception bars dont flunctuate as much but the data connection comes and goes. There still seems to be an issue.
2013-01-17 22:24
Where did you get the portico? Is tmobile pushing it?
2013-01-17 22:53
yes tmobile has released it. goto settings>phone update and check for updates. the whole upgrade process took about 20-30 min for me.
