Hi,
I've had my Nokia Lumia 820 for about a month. when I send SMS messages all the emoticons available show up fine to the recipient fine.
My problem is that when I receive messages containing emoticons I only see the basic characters eg :-) or <3 etc not the graphical display of them. I have messages from both Blackberry and wp7 phones which fail to diaplay in this way (haven't tested any other OS).
Help!! I've trawled the internet and was expecting to find loads on this as it's pretty basic but there's very little, and no solutions offered. Leads me to believe it's phone specific.....any ideas???
thanks in advance.

May be result of the way these Emoticons were written.... In fact, if you send a Message with Emoticons to these devices..it may not get displayed correctly at the receiver's end ...

Emoticons display fine on my phone when I select them from those available and add to an outgoing message, but when I receive a text message with even a simple one, say :-) they display just like that and are not displayed with a graphical smiley etc. I just don't get it. My Symbian Nokia N8 would see the messages properly but the WP8 doesn't.

What I mean is try sending a message with emoticons from your Nokia Lumia 820 to Nokia N8 and see if it gets displayed fine on receipt ..Most probably it won't ...

I've never sent to N8 but have to Samsung Omnia (running WP7) and Blackberry and both see the emoticons properly. It is when they reply and also use emoticons that my Lumia 820 only sees them as character patterns not graphics.
