Well so far this has been a nightmare so I really hope some of you guys/gals can help me.
My girlfriend has a Lumia 920. She dropped it the other day and unfortunately for her, it landed absolutely plum on the face and, you guessed it, smashed the screen into pieces. I phoned the local Nokia Service Centre and was disappointed to find they wanted about £120 to repair it. Another shop quoted £105. Both these were going to do a full LCD and Digitizer replacement, and outright refused to replace just the glass.
We found somewhere cheaper who said they would happily change the digitizer but this is where the problems begin. They claimed to have experience working on iPhones, iPods, Samsungs, all sorts of phones and reviews were good. We dropped off the phone yesterday (Tuesday) morning yet within half an hour to fourty five mintes, it was apparently done, which shocked us both really considering the speed he'd been working at and these devices require careful hands.
Got the device back and there's a number of issues. For one, I think he's used a fake digitizer. Screen response is okay, but not as good as before. The Nokia logo in the top right seems, I don't know, slightly different, like fatter letters, there are visible lines where the in-glass circuitry is (Something I never saw on the old digitzer) and the light doesn't seem to get through as good. There seems to be like a dark grey-blue tint to the glass which is preventing all the light from getting through. Most weird, if you try to unlock it by pressing the power button, it takes 5 seconds before you can swipe up. Normally, you can swipe up instantly, but there is literally no response from the screen for roughly 5.5 seconds (usually when it first dims) at which point you can unlock and to be fair, the screen responds and acts normal once unlocked. Temporarily, my girlfriend has turned off the screensaver but this isn't a good solution as it'll murder her battery if she forgets to lock her phone.
There are other issues such as light bleed from the bottom right of the screen and the main windows/start button not always responding. Once, I restarted the phone and it wouldn't respond at all until I restarted it again. Another time, I came to the phone after it had been on charge for a few hours and it was haywire, clicking all over the place randomly without me even touching it. There is also a tiny spec of dirt underneath which isn't ideal.
I have phoned them back and he's happy to look but insists he did not use a fake screen claiming they don't exist. Now I know they do, I checked on eBay and they're widely available.
Are there any ways to detect a fake screen? Perhaps a diagnostic tool? Or something to look out for? I know there are ways once inside the device but I'd rather not take it apart as I reckon they'll know if I've had it apart.
Alternatively, are there any software ways to fix the unlock delay issue. I think my girlfriend could live with the poor response and disappointing tint to the glass if the unlock delay wasn't there.

Nokia has the screen/digitiser/glass as one replacement part for a reason and you just found out why. Separating the two is both cumbersome and re-assembling the combination is not as straightforward as it may seem.
Replacing the unit will take a certified Nokia Care Centre 5 minutes of actual work tops and is basically a snap in replacement. You observations on the glass not being genuine may well be correct but what were you expecting when you go to a non certified 3rd party to begin with. I'd say cut your loss and have a Nokia Care Centre replace it with a genuine part. Lesson learned and move on.

Paul, thanks for your reply. I didn't realize that officially Nokia had it down as a one piece. I got the impression the two shops were trying to screw me a bit.
Regarding going to a third party to begin with, I don't think that's really the issue. If you take your car to a garage for a new gearbox, you don't expect them to put a different one in, regardless of whether they're the dealer or not right? Going to the Nokia Care Centre is surprisingly expensive with all due respect. I used to have a Nokia 5800 and had the digitizer replaced twice at a Nokia Care Centre. Not only was it very cheap it was cost effective compared to other shops as in there was no reason to go anywhere else. A new screen + LCD for a Lumia 920 can be obtained for £63 (and probably less considering they're an official vendor) from a parts supplier, so for that 5 minutes you speak of, it's costing nearly £60 worth of labour? I expected to pay £80, £90, maybe £100 tops, but £120 is a hell of a lot. I can get a replacement Lumia 920 for a £160 and a second hand one in mint condition for £120, in that respect, I have to consider my options now as this isn't a top of the range phone anymore.
As far as I can tell, separating the two is only cumbersome if you don't know how to do it (and I personally don't), however many on the Internet seem to have done this successfully. The cynical side in me has me thinking that after you've had your new screen from the Nokia Care Centre, they take the old one in the back office and fit a new digitizer (despite it being a cumbersome process) and sell it as a replacment, but hey, that's just me.
I will take it back and try and get my money back as this really isn't an adequate job from the shop. I will then have to consider my options. I'm afraid paying £120 isn't an option right now. Money is tight and I can't just shell out so much for a job that can (if done right) be done for less.
Ultimately, if he'd used a genuine digitzer this probably wouldn't be an issue, it seems many of the problems stem from the fact he's used an aftermarket one. I was just hoping someone might be able to help with regards to making it work better.
