Re: Nokia Lumia 920 freezing and email sync problem

Hi,

I had my Lumia 920 for one week now. So far two relatively big problems.

It froze twice while in call connected to a Blackberry VM-605 Bluetooth speakerphone. A soft reset was required to start the phone in both cases. My old iphone 2G had no problem with this device.

The second problem is related to e-mail. I had my POP3 email working fine for 3 days and suddenly it will no longer send out my e-mails. I tried both reply and send new e-mail with no success. I can sync and receive e-mails as long as there is no e-mail sitting in the out box of the e-mail. If there is a message in the outbox it will go to an endless sync mode.

Anybody else experiencing similar problems????

Re: Nokia Lumia 920 freezing

Here's an upate with my 920- original problem included freezing on stand-by or while screen was on, had to either soft reboot or wait minutes before it eventually rebooted on it's own.

I saw there were different possible reasons for the random lock-ups including the Facebook app. I figured I give that one a try and uninstalled it. Soon after for about 5-6 days I had not problems, so I figured I would give one of the third-party FB apps a try and soon enough after install my 920 locked-up. I uninstalled it and the next day pinned the touch.facebook.com to the start and that instantly froze. Now I don't think the FB app is the precise culprit, but I am thinking it is a cocktail of processes that lock it up and the FB apps are one of the ingredients.

Question for those who purchased and returned it from the Microsoft Retail Store, I was thinking of going to exhange it. What is their exchange policy, is it 30 days? Got mine on release day. Thx.

My L920 did freeze once but not after when I >>> pushed Vol Down + Power + Camera buttons >>>> wait till the phone vibrates >>>> loose Camera Button >>>> wait 5-10 secs and loose the other two buttons.

Re: Nokia Lumia 920 freezing

Ok guys heres I stopped the phone from freezing, but the music still plays.  Under settings, speech I turned off Enable Speech Recognition Service and Audio confirmations.  That seems to stop the freezing but still turns on the music while I'm doing anything and my bluetooth is engaged.  If I'm looking at texts and get a text message where the bluetooth uses speech it won't freeze anymore but it will turn on the music.  I will monitor and see if the freezing returns if I turn on audio confirmations.

Re: Nokia Lumia 920 freezing and email sync problem

Hi,

I made the initial post regarding the 920 freezing and e-mail sync issue. The e-mail issue was resolved by my carrier provider. It was my fault. Wrong outgoing server in the e-mail settings. The freezing when connected to Bluetooth device happened 2 times over the one week of use. I hope that Microsoft will provide a fix for it.

Re: Nokia Lumia 920 freezing

Be careful with this method of restarting. From what I've read, this is a "hard" restart and can cause bigger problems. A "soft" restart is recommended which is holding down the Vol down and Power button at the same time for about 10secs. If that doesn't work, I'd see you local retailer.

Re: Nokia Lumia 920 freezing

A soft reset may solve the symptoms but not ecessarily the cause whereas the hard reset is more likely to solve the cause as well. The hard reset should not cause bigger problems. If a bigger problem does appear, it is not likely tohave been caused by the hard reset and is probably caused by some other more serious issue with the phone and it is better to know now rather than later. You should get it to a care point to be fixed or replaced.

Re: Nokia Lumia 920 freezing

After reading your post, and receiving my own faulty 920, I ran a test. I placed it on an ice pack from the freezer and was able to use it perfectly for over an hour. Before that it would freeze every thirty seconds or so - and just like you said, it would work again in a few minutes.

Here is the issue: In Australia right now, it is hot. The phone temperature is already elevated somewhat and a few moments of usage pushes the temperature inside too much for it. Either the firmware has a cutoff temperature that is set too low, or the phone is faulty.

Interesting!

(I know this coz I've lived with a HTC Desire for the last year that does the same thing after a minute on the phone or the net or navigating!)

Peace

Re: Nokia Lumia 920 freezing

Have had my 920 for a couple of weeks.  Had one problem on day 2 where it spontaneously became very very hot and the battery drained rapidly.  I turned off NFC, had no problems.  In the last three days, however, I've had to soft reset the device 3 times.  Oddly, I wasn't even using the phone at the time.  I had set it down earlier and picked it up to use and learned that it was off and wouldn't respond when I tried to turn it on.  The soft reset did the trick.  As I am compulsive in turning off apps that aren't in use and I only have four tiles routinely updating - 2 weather, one news app, and the WP Central app,  I'm convinced that there's something wrong with the software associated with either GPS or LTE.  I love this phone, and hope that these defects are sorted out and eradicated quickly.  The takeaway is that the user is not the problem, the OS is the problem.  The phone needs to be fixed.

Re: Nokia Lumia 920 freezing

Reboot mid call? I'd check the sim first. Make sure sim is securely inserted and try another sim if possible.

Re: Nokia Lumia 920 freezing

New does not necessarily mean not faulty. No harm trying to reseat the sim or to try another just to eliminate the sim as a cause because it is the simplest of the possible solutions. If you are convinced it isn't the sim then you could try resetting your phone. Backup your data but preferably not settings if possible. Apps you can reinstall. Some apps have been linked to problems so may wat to lay off apps after the reset to see if problem is resolved. If phone is stable then start installing apps.

Re: Nokia Lumia 920 freezing

tried another sim, same issue.

I'll erase everything, then I'll let you know, do you know apps that create problems?

thanks!

Re: Nokia Lumia 920 freezing

Personally I had issues with Nokia Transit, but has been fine since they updated it. Other apps that may have issues are Whatsapp, Skype and a few other beta apps. Again, not everyone seems to have problems with the same apps. The OS is so new that there are bound to be a few teething issues with OS as well as app compatibility. Something to keep the MS boys busy for a while.

Re: Nokia Lumia 920 freezing

Exact same thing happened to me after I had the phone; on the 3rd day I had this problem. They replaced it with another NEW phone and it froze again on me 2X; this time though I was able to reboot it after an hour.  I am thinking of returning this phone because I am afraid my 15 days warranty for a new phone replacement will run out soon. I love the phone if not for this problem.

Re: Nokia Lumia 920 freezing

Same problem for me and same "troubleshooting" way of fixing it(hard reset  - all three buttons at once). It froze like this for me 3 times in 3 weeks. Its starting to get annoying. Anybody in the thread know if its hardware or firmware based?

Re: Nokia Lumia 920 freezing

Microsoft already stated that they are working on an update for windows phone 8. They said that they are trying to fix the reboot problem. So,now we can just hope that the update will be released soon.

Personally I kept watching my phones behavior for a while now and I noticed that some apps do not shut down correctly. I noticed that because some apps increased the heat of my phone and even after closing some of these apps my phone didn't cool down until I did a normal reboot. So that definitely sounds like a software issue in my opinion.

I randomly reboot my phone now once every two days and that way I'm not experiencing any freezes.
