Mine is still looking good after 3 days following CloudStrife's fix. Fingers crossed! Let's keep reporting back on this to see if we have a solution.

Sorry to hear that hulkki. Perhaps you could use it for a while to confirm that it is again unreliable and then do CloudStrife's fix again to see how long it lasts. Maybe something happpens to put it back into the bad state again. The more info we have the better chance we have of making Nokia sit up and listen.

Mine is still holding up after 4 days. Right now, I feel that I can throw anything at it and it won't break ....  just like any ordinary phone lol ... but let's see how long it lasts.

One other thing that may be completely unrelated is that I often use my phone in the car with a Fiscon after market bluetooth handsfree kit.  Sometime I am not able to initiate a call from the steering wheel controls. Right now, with the phone in it's good state that is working o.k. I will keep an eye on it to see if the two good and two bad modes are linked in some way.

Sorry to hear that, however I think that there are several other (minor) issues that may lead the phone to hang.

For example, mine freezed again after 7 days of non-stop uptime, just after I used the SKYDRIVE to copy some files on the phone.

I rebooted it, and it never freezed again since then (but I've never used skydrive from that time). So I think that there could still be some apps that may lead to freezing by using some function in a bad way.

It doesn't actually matters to me since I can use the phone pretty well (wifi, 3g, bluetooth, whatsapp, facebook, games...), it works fine also as alarm clock in the morning. On my handset, the major issue was certainly with the SIM. Hope this is the same case for you too.

Do you remember if you used Skydrive or Skype (or some other app you did not use in the past 5 days) some time before the phone freezed?

Note: if you have automatic upload of new pictures to Skydrive, even shooting a new picture means using Skydrive, since the phone uploads a copy of it on the cloud.

Re: Nokia Lumia 920 freezing

Odd. I never had the "reboot because of no number in the SIM" problem when I got my EE SIM and Lumia 920 back at the end of November last year...

Actually it wasn't me that wrote that Cloudsrife it was hulkii :smileyvery-happy:

My 920 is still running after 4 days and I think you have pin pointed the major cause and a fix so thanks for that.

Out of interest, where did your SIM come from? Also did you have to reset the date and time after a soft reset?

I agree with you that the phone is now quite useable with your fix applied. It's just a s well though that Microsoft don't do the software for fly by wire aircraft else planes would be dropping out of the sky all over the place.

I got my original phone and two replacements from Phones4You through a telephone sale.  The original EE SIM supplied apparently had a number but was not registered on the network and I was told it would take up to 48 hours to register but it never did. The SIM was replaced in an EE store and that's when the rebooting problem started. I gather now that this was because the replacement didn't have a number.  I received 2 more SIMS trhough the post from Phones4U but the rebooting continued even after the phone was exchanged twice. Eventually I cancelled the contract with Phones4U and signed up directly in store with EE. The SIM supplied came pre-registered with a number but was put in a donor Android phone to register it on the network.  It then worked first time in my new Lumia 920 (no 4). Finally my old 02 number was ported to the new contract. I had the freezing issue with this phone and also discovered that the camera flash didn't work. EE gave me a 5th phone and I was then just left with the freezing issue now hopefully sorted by CloudStrife's fix.

Maybe your SIM was registered with a number and with the network by EE before you got it?

Re: Nokia Lumia 920 freezing

4 days after applying Cloudstrife's fix, my phone froze/shutdown last night while on the wireless charger.

Before it went on the charger, it had entered power saving mode and was in a good signal 4G zone.

I noticed that Bluetooth and Wireless LAN were off after the soft reset but I don't know if they were on before.  As usual the time and date needed to be reset.

So now I am going to see how long it stays working and report back here.  I won't apply Cloudstrife's fix again until it happens again. This way I might be able to gauge how effective the fix is.

Re: Nokia Lumia 920 freezing

Mine rebooted/froze still again, did the fix again now.

Btw. What kind of IMEIs do you guys have as a number after 35414905?

Mine is 35414905-126xxxx..

Just wondering, because we (at work) bought 6 Lumia 920s at the same time, and three of them had this freezing/rebooting issue.

The three that have never froze/rebooted have the latter imei part over 550k and those three that had issues had imei number below 550k (like mine 126...)

Two of them were taken back for repair. One came back from repair already and seems ok now (only tested 2 days though).

I'm starting to think that it is some kind of hw issue after all and maybe I'll take mine back for repair.

Good idea to compare IMEIs hulkkii :smileywink:

Mine is 35414905-264xxxx

If I ask for a new handset I'll insist on one with an IMEI over 500xxxx

Re: Nokia Lumia 920 freezing

Mine is 146xxxx. While I've had a couple of reboots, I've traced most of them to software that misbehaves occasionally. I've certainly never had the amount of problems that some people have been complaining of.

Re: Nokia Lumia 920 freezing

Mine is 344xxxx. My phone will usually freeze up within every 12 - 24 hours from the last reboot. I've done the SIM trick and removed apps, but that didn't work. Right now I have find my phone and auto clock off. On top of that, I've been manually rebooting my phone every few hours. I've now gone 24 hours without it freezing. Not exactly a huge win but I'll take it. I'm debating if I want to do a factory reset or just go for the exchange and get a replacement.

Another thing we should track are apps users have found to cause them problems.

Re: Nokia Lumia 920 freezing

Mine is 35414905-234xxxx and have the same problems.

But in my case the phone works fine with this settings:

- WiFi off

- Bluetooth off

- Location is ON

- 3G is ON

- Date/Time in manual mode

I've reinstalled every apps that I need, Skype, Kindle, WhatsApp, Nokia Apps.

Re: Nokia Lumia 920 freezing

I tried Cloudstrife's solution; it worked for 4 days. I pulled the phone from my charger one early morning and it froze. Then I tried combining Cloudstrife solution with another suggestion: Setting, Lock Screen to Never. Been three days now and no freeze; will report in more 4 days.

When it was freezing before, I noticed that if i pull it from the charger (always at wake up time) and then press the power button, that's when the freeze happened.  But if I press the power button before I unplug the phone, it does not freeze. Looks like a battery regulation issue.

But as I said, will report again if the combined solution works.

Re: Nokia Lumia 920 freezing

Hello guys,

some good news maybe. On the italian side of this same discussion board, Nokia says they have acknowledged the issue and submitted it to their technicians whose are working on a solution.

This seems to be a good signal at least, hoping that they really opened a ticket about this matter.

If anyone wants to follow that thread (maybe by translating it with google) or just read Nokia's answer, here is the link: http://discussions.nokia.com/t5/Nokia-Lumia/Nokia-Lumia-920-Freez-ogni-2-settimane/td-p/1707082/page...

As you can see, it's this same board.

In the meantime, I used again Skydrive today, and found my phone frozen a few hours later.

So, I think that solved the major issue with the SIM, there are still many other issues related with the software. At least, on my handset.

Hope they will release a patch soon, in the meantime maybe I will manually and intentionally reboot my phone after using certain apps (such as skydrive or any other app I not usually open): that will be better than an unexpected freezing. :whistling:

This is good news. I read the entire thread, seems to be basicaly the same problems. I have tried all of these fixes, but none have resoved the problem for me. Atleast in my case, the freeze only happens on average once per week, sometimes twice a week. My wife's phone (same model and same apps installed) has never had this problem. My original Lumia 920 also never had this problem, but had to be exchanged because of a bad headphone jack.

Re: Nokia Lumia 920 freezing

My first Lumia 920 bricked and I got a replacement phone. It's IMEI is 35414******

So far the phone has worked flawlessly. No crashes, no heating issues, no battery drain. After "normal" use my battery is about 50% gone by the end of the day which I think is similar performance to other smart phones.

- WiFi on

- Bluetooth off

- Location is ON

- 3G is ON

- Date/Time in automatic mode

- 3 mailboxes syncing every 15 minutes

- WhatsApp on

- Facebook on

I have not used Bluetooth pairing, car navigation or skype.

Basically, if your phone misbehaves in any way, get it replaced

Cheers,

cautiously optimistic Lumia 920 user from Finland.

Hi Bommi, Please could you let us see some more digits from your IMEI.  Leave the last 4 as xxxx for your security. The current theory is that ones with numbers greater than  35414905-500xxxxx don't have the issue but we are trying to narrow it down. It would also be interesting to know if you have 4G in your location?

.... It only took 3 months to acknowledge that there is an issue but I guess we should be thankful for small mercies. In the meantime, periodic reboots seem to be a way forward.

Re: Nokia Lumia 920 freezing

Hi JustMeLumia,

Please could you share yours and your wife's IMEI numbers (less the last 4 digits) e.g. 35414905-321xxxx?

As one is freezing and the other isn't it might help to narrow it down to a range of IMEI numbers.

Of course your wife's use scenarios may be quite different to yours.
