Thanks for that info Briant & yes it has cured this issue at a stroke !
Looking at the reviews it would seem that a lot of other users were also having a problem so you have to wonder why Nokia were not aware and if they were ? why they never resolved this in the new update.

Font scaling is not going to happen for WP 7.x
Maybe try a pair of glasses? I know I never had an issue reading text on my L800 and do not feel I need larger fonts on my L620 either..

i have raed all of the posts to find there is no solution to the question on how to increase the font. i have wasted hours trying to find an answer. it is obvious that there are some extremely rude people make some extremely arrogant and sarcastic remarks such as
For those who do not have 20/20 vision someone invented glasses..
i wanted if they would be so dismissive of other's genuine inquiries if they didn't have an alias to hide behind. this is merely a form of cyber bullying. each and every one of the smarty pants making these comments should be ashamed of them selves and their total lack of compassion and their smug sense of superiority.
the fact is those of us who have used nokia in the past have become accustomed to having changeable fonts. we don't always have our glasses with us and why should we have to justify ourselves to the visually gifted cowards out there? for the first time in my life i have had to pass the phone to someone to ask them to read my messaages. is there a solution on the way? i've just downloaded the latest update to find the chinese fonts have been enhanced and a choice of 20 colours now. how about a usable practicle feature such as the one we are asking for,

For me this has been the most disappointing phone I have ever owned and due to its many faults I am now looking more closely at the competition, I’ve had Nokia phones for around 25+ years and each phone as been a real update and performance as always improve with each phone, but my Lumia 800 has lots of impressive big apps but is just one big let down in lots of the little things that you expect with a so called smart phone. I still have my old N85 8GB and N900 and both these phones can out perform my Lumia 800 on just the basic things so was very very disappointed when I found that my Lumia could not do what these older phone could do with ease.
Seems that Nokia is also just not listening to there costumers, was expecting that with the last update to 7.8 we would get customizable alert tones, resizable fonts and improvements to calendar but no we get a third size of tile wow, just another big let down.
And before people start saying its not Nokias fault you should complain to MS, I did not buy an MS phone I’ve brought a Nokia phone, Nokia have made the decision to us MS windows on the phone so they are completely responsible with all its faults and failings, if you have an electrical fault with your Ford car do you take it back to bosch or who ever it is who surply the electrical system, no you take it back to Ford,
I believe the phones are selling well from what I’ve heard but I myself only know of one other person in my own circle of friends and family that purchase a Lumia at the same time as I did and they have already abandoned the phone and said its unlikely they will ever buy Nokia again and sorry to say it is very unlikely my next phone will be a Nokia.
My own contract runs out in a couple of months and if nothing changes in that time, which I guess is unlikely then this will be my last Nokia phone very said.

I wrote a post on Windows Phone Phorum and there were more than 5,600 users with the same complaint. The font is too small.
Increasing Font size must be considered as a correction (not an improvement) and consequently the update must be considered as urgent.
