Not get Voicemail Notifications

Hi I have a Nokia Lumia 820 from ATT. So I cant seem to get voicemail notifications unless i have my data connection. I usually leave it off so I was wondering if there is a way to get voicemail notifications without leaving my data on all the time.

you will have to check with AT&T, what their policy and workings are on the matter. sounds like it is network-carrier dependent.
