I turn on Internet sharing on the phone. I connect my MacBook Pro mid 2012 to the phone by WiFi. Now you normally have an Internet connection on your laptop through your phone.

In my case the WiFi connection from my laptop to the Lumia keeps disconnecting after just some tens of seconds. This has happened on 2 different Lumia 920 phones used on 2 different MacBook Pros and an iPad.

This is NOT carrier related. I have already gone through this with my carrier (Elisa).

So any ideas?

Now after 4 discos the Internet sharing/WiFi has been on for 15 minutes. I have now succeeded twice at this: re-connect 4 or 5 times and the connection is more stabile.

This problem is extremely weird.

Do you have another wifi router nearby? just wondering if they are on the same channel and interfering with the phone losing out since it is not as powerful. Download an app called InSSider and install on a laptop or andoid device with wifi and scan the networks within range. 

Mine is on Channel 6 and clashing with my neighbours router.

Unfortunately this is not the issue either as it occurs even in my car.

I would still try Inssider and see if there is a problem with the signal which would indicate a hardware issue. Otherwise, you could try a reset if you think it is software related. Remember to sync/backuip your data before resetting.

I had a similar problem and was searching the web for a solution and came on this page.
I have a recently bought 920.
It seems the internet sharing only works where a high speed network is available. I came to this conclusion as teh internet sharing through my lumia 920 only works in my living room where I used to get 3g signals. I know this as my old phone (iphone 4s) used to show if the signal is 3G.
But this win8 OS does not show what kind of signal its receiving ..
Hope it helps and please confirm if you have the same case.

I have a Lumia 822 running WP8.

inSSIDer shows it is currently "Internet Sharing" on channel 6.

Channel 6 is also used by a neighbors access point.

I believe this is the cause of dropouts.

Can the broadcast channel of 822 be changed?

You have just asked me a question I was meaning to test myself. Mine shares on Ch 6 as well and there is no manual way to change this. I suspected the phone may auto select a clear channel but the fact that yours is also on ch 6 with another router on the same channel would sugest that thi is not the case. I am hoping to test this over the weekend when I get a chance.

I have this issue despite neighbouring wlan routers. As I said, it occurs in my car in the middle of no where. Also I have 3G and H+ in my house, but I still have this problem.

I have tested an confirmed that on either of those networks (Bell or Rogers) that internet connection sharing works as LONG as you change your maximum connection speed to 3G from LTE. I haven't recetived an answer from Roges as to why but ICS works all the time once you've done that. However my rate of speed on Rogers whether at 3G or LTE doesn't seem to make a difference right now so until LTE is fully implemented I don't have a problem

When attempting to use internet connection sharing with my iPad 3, I was  receiving HSPA+, but not 4G LTE on the Telstra NextG network. I changed the Highest Connection Speed from 4G to 3G and the iPad now connects.

I can connect perfectly at high speeds to the internet using my phone, as soon as I connect a device through internet sharing, like my iPad or Windows tablet, the phone loses 3G connectivity!! On the phone it will show full signal bars with the 3G logo next to it, as soon as I connect a device, the 3G will disapear. When I disconnect the device, the 3G is back and I can connect again with my phone.

I feel this lumia 920 is the most expensive piece of rubbish I have ever bought!
