How do I install the language pack please.

When I press the start button it says , 'speech is off until your new language pack has been installed'

you can check progress in settings.  but I can't find anything, have I ticked/unticked the wrong boxes?

I know Im probably being very stupid, this is my first windows phone and I'm still trying to grips with it.

I would be very grateful for any help and advice given.

You goto Settings>Language+region. Now select the languages you want for the various functions. When you select each, if it is not already installed on your phone, you will be asked if you want to download it. If it is already installed then the changes won't take effect until you restart.

thankyou, I thought Id cracked it when I got the download message and the phone switched off and then on again but Im still getting the same message.

Reboot the phone and try again. It should work. You will also need a good internet connection if you need to download the language file.

After trying 4 or 5 times I went to 'speech' and it said downloading, put phone onto wifi and I've now got an install message and cogwheels, so think you may very well be a genius.  That certainly wasn't obvious.

yeh............ it worked, it recognised 'find coffee' but now it cant connect to search.     lol

Hi, I'm having a similar problem. I can't install new speech language packs.

I went to Settings --> Speech --> Speech language : selected from download list another language like Chinese or Japanese. A popup appears, "Download Speech language?" I select "yes". Underneath the language pack name it says "Downloading language..." then it ends and displays "Couldn't download. Tap to retry." I tried this many times, on different wireless networks. I tried different language packs. No luck.

Any suggestions? (this is Nokia Lumia 820, I'm in China)

Settings: language and region has been set to China (I also tried US).

have you tried downloading it via WiFi? (with the phone turned to Flight Mode so it is forced to use WiFi only)

I'm having the same problem. I've bought a lumia 920 in UK and now I'm trying to install Spanish keyboard and speech and it always says Couldn't download. Tap to retry.

I have tried many many times with different wifis and still unable to make it working. Any help? Otherwise I will be returning the phone. As I cannot use it on my mother language for speech.

Goto settings>language+region. If you have set your country to UK, and language set to Spanish at the moment, then try temporarily either change country to Spain and leave language as Spanish or Leave the country as UK and set language to English.

I have my phone completely set to Spanish. Then I go to the voice and try to download the voice in Spanish and always get the error.

I set it for UK and get the same.

I has to be another thing. I know the network is working because I'm able to browse. Actually I have tried both with mobile and wifi

It gives option like download through WIFI or Download through your Network Data

The Update status is alwats stuck at 0%
