Hi guys, have been using a N820 for a week now. Last WP was the Lumia 800. Compare these two phones I would say the N820 is a big improvement over the 800 especially the WP8 OS as to the WP7.5 OS. Apparently WP8 supports Bluetooth file transfer & so they say.
I'm having problem figuring out how to transfer videos & photos to another Bluetooth enabled phone. Can anyone help & all suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Since I'm posting might as well report that I have sent my N820 back to Nokia Centre today as I was having problem connecting the Bluetooth to my S G Note2. Is being paired but each time when I tried to connect it. The N820 will be connected only very briefly & then it automatically gets disconnected. Deleted the pairing & start all over again same old story. I tried it with my N808 PV with my Note2 & it went like a breeze. Thanks guys & have a nice week end!

Certainly NFC only works between two Lumia devices, but haven't tried transferring video across to other devices via Bluetooth.

Bluetooth File Transfer works on Windows Phone 8, I tested Bluetooth file sharing between my old N8 and Lumia 920.

But Windows Phone 8 don't support the full Bluetooth File Transfer Protocol as files between a WP8 phone and a phone that fully support the Bluetooth FTP protocol must transferred one file at a time.

Samuel1989, thanks for the reply. Are you saying that even though the WP8 does not fully support BFTP but you can still transfer file one at a time. That is good enough for me.
Still waiting for my 820 to return as I have Bluetooth connection problem. Will try it out once is back from Nokia Hospital. LOL!

i can confirm what Samuel has said, did the same thing myself, transferred some music via Bluetooth over from my old N8 to my 920 the first night i had it. It is a one by one thing as Samuel has said, which can be cumbersome, but will do until you actually get to a computer to plug it in and transfer using USB.

Yes you can transfer music, videos and documents such as contacts and notes from a full Bluetooth FTP-enabled phone to a Windows Phone 8 device and vice versa. The only problem is that one file is transfered at a time.

Also if you cannot use your Lumia phone to transfer any file out, try these three things out:

1. Hold Volume down and Power keys for 10 seconds to soft reset/restart it and later switch it on as normal.

2. If your Lumia phone is working, back up all phone's data into your computer or SkyDrive, tap Settings>about>Reset your phone.

3. You may have a WP7.5 Lumia phone, update it via Zune to WP7.8, search and get the Bluetooth Sharer app from the Windows Phone Store.

If assuming steps 1 and 2 fails for your WP8 Lumia or step 3 fails if you have a WP7.5 Lumia updated to WP7.8, take the device to the nearest Nokia Care point for repairs.

On a 920 you can share via BT music, pictures and documents, not videos.

 When I hald a tap on video files the share option is not there.

Darn that Microsoft. OK, if you want video sharing, go to http://windowsphone.uservoice.com/forums/101801-feature-suggestions because Windows Phone 8 is not Nokia's problem, it's Microsoft's problem of protecting WP8 too much.

But do remember to search that forum first and see if the topic you want is there before you post a new topic.

You will not be able to pair to the S G Note2. They can't fix that. You don't have to pair to use BT object push. Other BT services require paring

A point to be made is that WP8 doesn't support File Transfer Protocol, but rather Object Push Protocol. The supported profiles are here, http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2770012  That sort of explains the one thing at a time restriction. There is nothing on WP that tells you what specific profiles are supported or being used, so it is hard to tell. Normally two devices that don't have any common profiles might actually pair, but you can't do anything. In my experience with the Lumias is that it will stay connected to another device for file transfer, only long enough to do the transfer. It won't just stay connected. You select a file to transfer, select a device to transfer to, if that device is ready to receive, a connection is made, the file transfers, and the connection drops. That seems to be normal.

Hi Friends,

Need yoour help. I received a video file from my friend over bluetooth on my Lumia 820 but I cannot see that file in my phone. i checked all the possible paces but still I could not find it. Then I connect my phone to my laptop and using the windows 8 application still i could nt find. Friends please help me as I can see that i have received the file  and my phone memory is used for that but I cant see the file anywhere. Please help.

It's in the 'Other' folder. If you didn't view the video and save it immediately it cannot be accessed or deleted any more. I'm sorry you have to put up with the idiosyncracies of this (p).o.s.

Can anybody tell me when i receive a video via Bluetooth,video doesn't go to the video folder in sd card.it goes to pictures folder in sd card.anybody has idea when i receive a video via Bluetooth it automatically goes to video folder.any help will be appreciated.

Transferred supported music is stored in the Music + Video Hub.
 Transferred supported video is stored in the Saved Pictures folder of the Pictures Hub
 Transferred supported documents are saved in the Office Hub.

Files the phone doesn't support are discarded. That's the way it is.

Windows Phone 8 will pair and keep a connection to bluetooth audio deveces, speakers and headsets. Most PC bluetooth stacks do not have A2DP receive profile.. That would be the only thing that would keep a connectionto a PC. So, for almost all PC based bluetooth there will not be a maintained connection. You can still transfer files back and forth without a connection.
