WP7.5 doesn't fully support USSD codes. You may be able to get a response by typing the code all the way to the end to bypass menu choices but it doesn't always work.

Hi .....
I am unable to check my balance on bsnl India (cellone). Because in this network we have to dail *112# and then we have to reply 1,2,3,4,5,etc according to option please give answering feature on lumia to check balance
If your reply is 3 for eg., just enter *112*3# on your keypad. If there is another sub-menu and your reply is 2, enter *112*3*2#. You will not be able to reply to menus. Sometimes it works depending on the network.

The method you suggested doesn't work at all
OK, the last resort is to change your SIM into any old phone, even a dumb Nokia $30 phone, do your USSD codes and put it back into your Lumia. Sorry, WP7.5 is too advanced for this world which still use USSD codes. It's a generation ahead of its time.

If smartphone doesn't do those important things which can be done on 30$ GSM phone, it doesn't mean that it's improvment...

Hi all,
There is 2 different versions of USSD.
I've been looking around this issue . I also notice that the problem is not Nokia but Windows it self.
It seems that Windows Phones 7.5 etc doesn't Support USSD version 2.
If you have windows Phone and you try USSD the only USSD will work is Version1.
What is the different and how to identify the version.
USSD version 1 is when you send and you will get the answer right away and don't have to send a 2nd command.
For example if i would like to check my balance. And the carrier will send you back the amount you have.
That's USSD version1 .
USSD version 2 will be like if you want to by something like a data bundle.
And you will send a USSD command and a list of option . And then you will have to choose from that list what you need and you have to send a command back to the USSD platform for example 1 is a data bundle .
And you will have to send back . That will be more like USSD version 2 . And that's the problem it seem like Windows doesn't support USSD version 2 . I have a nokia and HTC both WM7 Mango and Nokia Lumia 900 non of the windows works with USSD version2.
Hope We can get nokia to have a tool on the mobile that bypass that option and can use USSD version 2 on the Phone .
Regards

WP7 does not support this feature. This feat has been added to WP8. Here are some links from Microsoft forum addressing this issue.
You can vote for the feature over at the official user voice site though:

Ignoring customers will highly affected to Nokia & Microsoft's reputation. Take in your mind that nowadays every user is being more advance user (I.e. More than basic or average user), you should consider almost every persons advice if you want to progress. Cell phone becomes SMART when it support older functions with improvement. Removing Bluetooth file transfer, USSD code poor / not functioning, no options for offline / PC backup of your contacts/multimedia content/applications.... Won't make this cellphone secure. Hire better professionals to resolve this issues rather than complaining that this functions are vulrunable to user and all that excuses. Stop making excuse, avoiding customers/ end users voice. End result will be total failure. you are not making premium things that some fools will buy to be prod to buy. By the way, if you want answer to your excuse about functionality, search the google and you will find much more geeks giving almost every function an average user need. Wake up. Start working.
Windows Phone 8 is still a relatively new OS and as such will take time to evolve. To be honest, as a first release, it already has quite a few advanced features and will get better over time.
Consider how Android has evolved from being a very basic OS five years ago to what it is today and you will realise how far WP can go given the same time frame.

No offence, but again one good excuse. What I am trying to tell you, that if one geek can provide basic functionalities one average or advance user expects, why the h@@$ the whole company can't provide such functionalities with a bunch of some really heavy & intelligent employees; say R & D team. What is your opinion? Believe me, my old Sony Ericsson 510i can handle galaxy on fire Java version very well. Why you have to remove Java previlages / functionalities without proving alternative function for that purpose. Not everyone can afford and/or able to use high speed data connection all the time; at least not everywhere. Do you have any considerable explanation to my and all other people's inconvenience. ( this is not personnel, its just frustration after good hope from so called good combination of two of the major companies- you know from at least 15 years of good past record.)

You cannot add features by just a flick of a finger you know. They may have plans to add those features in the future, something that they are not required to inform you. When you are a baby, are you able to talk already?
