The WP7 version of whatsapp is a really poor imitation of the Iphone or android versions. I have been really disappointed with it on my Lumia too. I have problems with push notifications, time stamps sending and receiving. But all these are issues with the app itself, it is a new platform that it is running on. If you have a look at the reviews of the app in the market place most are quite negative. So it isn't really a nokia issue or even a WP7 issue, it is the app itself.

I have to agree with Hemble here.
I'm afraid neither Nokia or Microsoft can control how well 3rd party apps are written, however I am suprised they let it through quality control, which is usually quite strict on marketplace.
Just keep an eye out for updates, it will get better in time.

Does the problem occurs when you using wifi connection? Im having the same problem too, it took hours to deliver/reveive the msg. I wonder its the network issue of the app itself as if sometimes can work perfectly at some area.

Same issue here! It doesn't matter whether I'm on 3G or Wifi, Whatsapp won't deliver my messages. It seems that the connection is lost for this particular application (all the others working over any connection).
Then when I restart the phone, the app connects and sends and receives all missed messages, but what0s the point of receiveing a message 4 hours later...?
It's really useless. I've switched back to standard sms, but I miss WhatsApp group chat from my old Symbian.

I had a similar problem on mine, but its solved now.
Whatsapp was receiving toast notifications (when on 2G) for incoming messages but messages were not getting received or sent. However, it was working fine on wifi. Have you tried using it on wifi??
This is the solution that worked for me:
I am on Vodafone in India. Vodafone provides two services for accessing net on phone - Vodafone Live (VL) and Vodafone Mobile Connect (VMC). By default, my Lumia was using Vodafone Live. So I called up the customer care ppl and asked them to deactivate Vodafone Live on my number. Now I am using net through VMC on my phone and whatsapp is working perfectly fine. I have even successfully sent and received audio clips and pics through it (while on 2G).
Hope it helps.
