Where do ringtones that are added, but do not meet the 40 seconds/1MB requirement go?

I've added the whole Super Mario Bros. original soundtrack and replaced the genre from soundtrack to ringtone in my new Lumia 800 from Zune.

I thought the 40 seconds/1MB requirement was a joke because none of the older phone models required that.

After adding the album of ringtones, I noticed that only the ringtones below 40 seconds made the "Custom ringtones" list.

Now I'm wondering where the other songs of the album are.

Do they consume memory?

Where can I delete them?

Did the phone delete the other songs automatically?

Did the phone even bother adding the songs that did not fit the requirements?

Can someone provide an explanation?
I'm a little obsesive compulsive about this.
I hate loose ends.

Thanks for answering!

It seems that this question is rarely asked.

I am unable to search similar topics regarding my question.

I have asked the same question in Yahoo! Answers and have yet to receive a reply.

When I swipe across songs in Zune Music+Videos, the ringtones genre is not there.

Why?

Is it normally there?

Is there a music folder in the phone?

Zune Music+Videos is the folder that every song I transfer pop up.

By handset, do you mean the model of the phone?

I didn't know you had to write down the model of the phone on the title when you can write it in the description.

Sorry for any inconvenience, I will do what's right next time.

Re: Where do ringtones that are added, but do not meet the 40 seconds/1MB requirement go?

In my first flush of enthusiasm for the 800 I added a pile of ringtones stored on my laptop and which I had used for other phones but Zune/800 refused to recognise them as tones and put them in the music folder. They're still there, not much use as anything as they actually are less than 40 seconds so useless as songs but not recognised as tones. I didn't bother removing them as they're not using much space.

Where is this music folder you guys are talking about?
Are you guys talking about Zune music+videos?
Is there another folder I should know about?

Re: Where do ringtones that are added, but do not meet the 40 seconds/1MB requirement go?

Will adding the songs from Zune to my phone AGAIN overwrite the existing tones?

If so, can I just re add the songs, then delete them from there?

I've figured out what music folder (I think) you guys were referring to and none of the custom ringtones I currently have are there.

Sorry, my bad, I did re-read your post twice but must be going blind not to notice it.

So, have you guys figured out anything?

I haven't still awaiting answers while looking for answers on my own.

I hate how limited your access is in the Lumia series.

Suggest you add just one song (thats not falling in the prescribed limit) to the Ringtone folder and see if it throws any error ..

HOLY EFF!

I just did farby's advice of trying to drag a ringtone that doesn't meet the phone's requirements.

When I did that, it showed itself on Zune.

When I removed the USB cord to check the song library and ringtones, it was not there.

When I plugged it back in, the song disappeared.

WEIRD

Re: Where do ringtones that are added, but do not meet the 40 seconds/1MB requirement go?

Maybe someone who has nothing to lose and are willing to restart their phone can try adding a ringtone that does not meet the requirements and see if it eats up memory?

I can't do that though, I have paid apps. and my trigger finger is itching to press the reset option on my phone just to cure this ITCH I have on whether the ringtones get silently deleted or simply become invisible.

Actually I had assumed the ones I added which it didn't like were still in music folder but they're not . I'll check later this evening and see what happens. I barely use the phone and there's loads of memory space.

Re: Where do ringtones that are added, but do not meet the 40 seconds/1MB requirement go?

I picked an mp3 track that was full length song, assigned it the genre ringtone , used Zune to copy it to the phone, it looked as if it was syncing via laptop but on disconnecting phone there was no trace of it anywhere on the phone, so I assume it must have simply rejected it.

Thats what it seems.. When you put something more than the prescribed limit to the Ringtone folder..its getting rejected.. But better if it gave some message ..
