Not sure yet, there could be 100's of rasons for not connecting. that s why you need to test and see. If the phone connects with encryption disabled but not with it enabled then the isuue is isolated to the encryption.  Also try rebooting the phone and router before reconnecting. 

I have problems connecting with 2 of my 7 routers which were corrected by firmware updates on the router. The router is the main suspect if your phone is able to connect to other routers and especially if it is old and not updated recently.

I bought a Lumia 920 today and ran into this problem with my router even though I've used many phones and laptops with it over several years, including my Lumia 800.

The solution was to reconfigure the wifi from wep to wpa. The 920 then connected immediately.

Just got home with new Lumia 920 today and it wont connect to my Eircom Netopia silver router, i have it set to WPA -PSK and i can get it to connect if i choose a different WPA mode but them MacBook stops working ???

Lumia 800 has no issues...according to Nokia PSK is not supported ?

The Lumia 920 works with WPA2 psk no problems. How is it not connecting? Is it problem optaining IP?

I have a Netopia in the office and the 920 connects fine. Have you tried rebooting the router?

It says the password is incorrect, which it is absolutely not.

Hi there,

I now have it working, turns out that there are two types of WPA-PSK modes on some routers, my router was old and only had WPA-PSK but when i switched over to my new router i changed to WPA2-PSK and that solved the issue.

Try this if you can, go into settings for wireless connection and look for the section to change this.

I have narrowed it down to the router, im doing a firmware upgrade atm. I tried turning of the security but the problem seams the be the network response , at my workplace I can connect and at friends houses. So IM hoping the firmware helps or I got nothing

I just recently bought a Nokia 822 less than a week ago and I'm having the same issue. As I have been able to reproduce the problem on multiple networks in different location using different brand routers and gateways with differing security setups, I can say with 100% that the issue is either Nokia and or WP8 specific (did not have this issue with my HTC Trophy which the Nokia replaced and no such problems with my HTC 3D or any of my other wireless enabled devices). I have found the issue occurs under serveral conditions:

1. 5Ghz network with WPA2 PSK with AES only encryptions are a complete no go --tried Netgear (3 different router models)/Actiontec (various gateway models)/Linksys (2 newest router models)/Motorola (various gateway models)/Apple Extreme (newest revision). In every case the router/gateway had the latest firmware.

2. If the phone attempts and or establishes any other kind of "network" connection first it will fail to connect/reconnect to ANY Wifi network regardless of of the fact that it may have been previously connected to that same network. The only solution that I have found is to reboot the phone. --in this case "network" refers to Bluetooth and USB data connections (USB chargers do not cause this problem).

Based on what I'm seeing and the fact that a number of others are having the same problem, there is a very real software/driver problem with the Nokia phones which may or may not be an OS issue.

Well, I guess I fall into this boat now where my Lumia 920 won't access the WiFi in my house where it once did.  I leave town on Monday for Christmas and come back Thursday and I noticed the wireless icon wasn't working on the phone.  Interesting. I checked all the other devices in my house including my PS3, two laptops, and my iPhone 4, and they all connect just fine.  Great.  All that happened was the power was off at my house for a day because of the snow in the area that caused some power lines to drop.  

I put the password in (believe me, I know the password) and it tells me it's incorrect like a few others have mentioned.  I spent over an hour on the phone with AT&T and went through a few tech people and they had no clue, either.  I had already gone through a bunch of things like changing from WPA2 back to WEP and back to WPA2 with no success. This stuff isn't rocket science to me; I'm a Medical IT network administrator.  This should be easy.  The phone "sees" all the networks around me but won't connect to the one that it once did.  The phone is up to date as of this particular date and most all points lead to it being a problem with the phone.  That's even what the AT&T people said, or seem to believe, anyway.

After all the odd/weird issues and jumping though hoops to make things work right on this phone, I may just upgrade my 2nd phone line and get an iPhone 5.  In 5 years of having iPhones, I NEVER had an issue with them not connection to wireless.  Ever.  Can someone enlighten me on how something so simple as putting a password in to access a network is so difficult?

Try rebooting router if you haven't already done so. From my experience most password type issues with lumia relate to routers which is why a router reboot, reset or firmware update helps, or get a new one. The router logs could contain relevant info regarding error if you have access to it.

Aleardy tried that along with complete reconfiguration which still left me connecting just fine with all the other wireless things but not the Lumia.  I'm not going to replace a perfectly good business class Motorola modem/router with a new one when everything else works fine except for one phone.  

Modem/router are up to date, too, by the way.

Just to update, I set up one of those "appointments" with Nokia for them to call me back with the Wifi issues I'm having with my 920, after going through the whole "shpeel" again with them, their reply was to back up the phone and do a hard reset on it.  Well, ok.  Then, I find out that it really doesn't back up much of anything. i.e., apps, music, etc., so everything has to be re-downloaded again and music redone again.  What a pain in the butt for something that's supposed to be a "smart phone".  I basically lose everything and have to redo it.  I'm trying to decide if it's worth it or not.  That iPhone 5 is sounding better and better all the time.

And for the record, again, I changed my wireless to "Open" which doesn't require a password; everything else connected and, yes you guessed it, the Nokia 920 didn't.

So no one has figured anything out on these things yet huh?  Well, one thing I did find out is that my 920 will connect to other wireless access points; just not the one at my house on the SAME router that is has connected to since I got it....until last week.  I'm going to take a router home with me from work and try it to see what happens.  If it works, then apparently it's some odd setting in my Motorola Netopia router that the Lumia decided not to like all of a sudden.  If it means I have to spend $$$ to replace my router with a new one just to make the Nokia 920 work, I'll just go buy an iPhone 5 and call it good since my buddy's 5 (and my old 4) connect right up with what I already have.

Oh well....

I am having the same problem. My 920 connected fine to my ASUS RT-AC66U wireless router and when I got a replacement 920 because of other issues, the new one will not connect. My previous 920 and my wifes 920 connect just fine, but the new 920 won't connect.

When we first got our 920's I had a hard time connecting them. I remember that I had to enter the password about 5 or 6 times for it to work. I have tried to enter in the password into the replacement 920 about 10 times and it keeps giving me a password error.

I use WPA2-Personal AES on the 2.4 Ghz network with no MAC filtering. The router and phone have all the updates possible.

This is just terrible...I mean seriously. And you don't want to hear my opinion about that **bleep** Nokia Drive+ Beta software. You put a really bad beta software on a flagship product????  Who is running the Nokia W8 team???

I too am having the same issues with Nokia 822 with Windows phone on Verizon. I purchase three if these phones for the family. We have had them on the network for about one month and they worked fine....then nothing on two and one day later the third experienced the same issue. They connect fine when I open the network, but secure it with WPA2 and you get the invalid password. Like others, I have tried a different WAP pass phrase, rebooting, etc. not experiencing issues with any other wireless connections. I have seen a posting of similar issues back in 2011 with the w7 phone as well..

I had the same problem being described on my Nokia 920. I could connect to some WiFi APs - but the one I have at home I could not get to connect - no matter how many times I tried. I even setup different SSIDs with simpler passwords and every time I would get a message saying Password Incorrect.

I found the answer (for me) on a Microsoft discussion group. The suggestion was to check to see if the wireless router was configured as 802.11 B and G. If it was - change it to 802.11 G and try to connect.  I made the change on my Motorola Netopia 2247/57-62 - it was under the Expert Mode - Configure - Wireless - Advanced Wireless LAN Settings - Operating Mode - I changed it from Normal (802.11 b+g) to (802.11 g only) then rebooted the router. The next time I connected to one of my SSIDs it connected almost immediately.

Don't know if that helps anyone but if it helps anyone - that's great.
