Re: lumia 920 soft reset needed if charged wirelessly

I don't think replacing the handset will fix it. I have had 5 handsets and the last two had this problem. Before that I didn't have the wireless charger. They both died after being charged overnight and had to be soft reset. There is no loss of data but the date is reset to some date in Sept 2012.

The newest one has also died overnight while not being on the charger. This means I can't trust it to wake me up.

The problem is reported in many other threads.

Microsoft and Nokia have announced an over the air update for these phones but it is only being rolled out in the USA and Canada at the moment.  Whether or not it addresses this issue is not clear.

Re: lumia 920 soft reset needed if charged wirelessly

Hi friends,

Is there a known fix for this? Is Nokia working on the fix? Turning off bluetooth and NFC is not an acceptable solution, its just a workaround. Why are some people not facing this issue and some of us are? Makes Wireless charging basically useless with my Lumia 920!

Hope there is a fix coming soon, I dont want to return my phone.

Re: lumia 920 soft reset needed if charged wirelessly

Actually, I had to do a soft reset after having it in "Wired Charging" the wirelessly element doesn't seem to be the issue.  It happened even after the most recent Portico OS upgrade.

I have been using dynamic lockscreens.  That is lockscreens that change  with like facebook photo's or weather lockscreens as provided by weather flow.

My thought was that maybe when the phone was updating content on the lockscreen it crashed.  Soooo, I've changed to a static lock screen image.  It's only been a few days.  But, no crashes yet.  .... its still early though.

You are right these are just work arounds to broken functionality.  How can I trust the phone to wake me up as an alarm clock.  Or more importantly, I am on call for work 24x7 one week every few months.  I could loose my job if they can't get a hold of me because the phone is off. (I have a work around for that too)

Re: lumia 920 soft reset needed if charged wirelessly

I exchanged my Lumia 820 for this reason back in November and now my other unit is doing it to. About once a week the phone switches itself off and the only way of getting it back on is by taking the battery out. Where's the fault? Hardware or software?

Does anyone know if Nokia read these boards?

Does

Re: lumia 920 soft reset needed if charged wirelessly

[ Edited ]

I started this thread.  I thought it had to do with the charger because everytime it occured it was on the charging plate.

However, it may not be the case.  It may be the lockscreen.  I turn off lockscreen update apps and the phone has stopped crashing on the wireless charging plate.

I had my lockscreen set to rotate images from bing.  Then I had the lockscreen set to flip images from Facebook.  Then I added weatherflow and it would update my lockscreen.  I suspect that in the process of the app changing the lockscreen picture in the middle of the night it would crash.

I switched it to using just a static pic and it has stopped.  It used to crash every 2 or 3 days.  It hasn't crashed for me in two weeks.

I think its the lockscreen.  Who knows

Re: lumia 920 soft reset needed if charged wirelessly

My 920 has done this on pretty random basis with a wired charger. I also use a static image as my lock screen background. However, I have noticed that for the day leading up to it needing a soft reset, my battery drains pretty quickly compared to most days with similar use. I usually take it off the charger at 6 AM and Put it back on around 10PM, and my barttery is usually between 30 - 50%. When it needs a soft reset, the battery seems to drain a lot faster, and is usually on battery saver when I plug it in. When this happens I usually plug it in a lot sooner than 10PM, maybe around 6PM. As mentioned by others, this started happening after the most recent OTA update. Hopefully this will get acknowleged and fixed soon.

Re: lumia 920 soft reset needed if charged wirelessly

After not doing it for a week, my Lumia 820 did it about an hour ago. The phone was switched off and so took the battery out rather than doing a soft reset.
Are ALL new Lumias like this? Surely not. I might take it back and see if I'm third time lucky.

It seems to be a very common issue, however I have heard of people who have no issues at all. Maybe it is a manufacturing defect only affecting certain batches.

Re: lumia 920 soft reset needed if charged wirelessly

I  have only had this happen once with wireless charging, I forgot to take my phone off the wireless plate before I went to bed, and in the morning, took my phone from charger and had to do a soft reset, don't know why this happened, but I make sure I take phone off the charger as soon it is fully charged, and this hasnt happened since.
