"Tranfer my Data" from HTC HD7 to Lumia 920

Hi,

I recently bought a Nokia Lumia 920 and I tried the Nokia app "Transfer my Data" to transfer my SMS from my old HTC HD7 to my new lumia.

Unfortunately it doesn't work: after trying to pair the two devices, just after it appears on the two devices the PIN notification, the connection fails.

Is this a know issue and is this going to be fixed?

I really like to transfer my SMS to avoid losing them...

Thanks

AFAIK, you can't transfer old SMS / MMS messages from a Windows Phone 7.5 handset to a Windows Phone 8 handset, only from iPhone / Android / old Nokia handset etc. Your only option is to say, copy manually your messages and paste them in notes, and upload using OneNote. Unfortunately that is the situation.

Re: "Tranfer my Data" from HTC HD7 to Lumia 920

Well, this is very disappointing.

I expect this to be fixed soon, because I don't think it's fair to support "almost any phone" except the ones that mount WP 7.5 (considering now we are using a new version of the same operating system).

Also, copying manually texts is not a solution, and I don't need to explain why.

Thanks.

Windows Phone 7.x has no functionality to backup of save SMS messages. As this is a core OS design choice yo should take this up with Microsoft

Re: "Tranfer my Data" from HTC HD7 to Lumia 920

Text message transfer should work from the HD7 as text message transfer from WP7.5 is supported in the latest version of Transfer my Data.  Please make sure that you have version 2.2 of Transfer my Data as this version has some fixes for WP7.5 transfer.

Try again with this version and you should be able to get Contacts and hopefully SMS from the HD7 using Transfer my Data.  Note that only received messages will be supported and this is due to a limitation of Windows Phone 7.  Also note that if text message transfer does not work or you see "Not Available", try updating the software on the HD7.

Thanks for the reply rassoodock,

I was already using the last Transfer my data, after the update (the version about says is 2.2.0.7).

And I have the last firmware update for HD7, which is the "tango" update.

The BT connection fails, I'm not even able to choose what I want to transfer...

Re: "Tranfer my Data" from HTC HD7 to Lumia 920

Just upgraded my HD7 to Windows Phone 7.8.

It still doesn't work... bluetooth pairing fails.

Disappointed.

Re: "Tranfer my Data" from HTC HD7 to Lumia 920

There are some odd issues with Transfer my Data coming from Windows Phone 7.  If you delete the pairing on the 920 by pressing on the device name in the Bluetooth menu and select "Delete", then reboot the HTC device and redo the pairing, it should work.

Re: "Tranfer my Data" from HTC HD7 to Lumia 920

Actually it copied only a part of them...

And I'm not talking about sent messages... I mean only a part of the received messages. There are a lot of received messages that there are missing...

This kind of things really sucks... or you do something that works good, or you don't do it at all!

Can you run it more than once?

Yeah... but to avoid duplicates I had to delete the transferred message between copies.

I saw it can transfer up to 500 messages per run... weird, isn't it?

Got lucky when I had to delete entire threads... but I had to delete a lot of single messages too.

A lot of works... to have only the received messages :/

PS:
Oh yeah, I forgot... all transferred with the wrong time. Copied appears 1 hour earlier.

Same problem here with a Motorola Defy (Android Froyo). Have you come up with a solution? Best regards!

Re: "Tranfer my Data" from HTC HD7 to Lumia 920

Hi, I just purchased a Lumia 920 and have a HTC HD7 (WP7.8) that I want to transfer SMS and photos/video to it. It would be great if contacts history could also be transferred.

I don't need to worry about email, contacts, calendar, onenote and docs, as I used Office 365 and these will come down to the 920 through the cloud. For music and podcasts I guess will need to resync the 920 with my PC at some stage some how.

Besides this question re SMSs, etc., do people have any tips/tricks for this type of transfer? All advice/war stories would be most welcomed!
