Followed instructions to "turn on", but status light does not light, with phone placed on it to charge or not. Should the light come on when plugged in? Tried several outlets, no luck. Now.. ?

Have you checked the relevant Settings > Accessories for the charger. If you are sure you have the correct settings and that you have placed the correct area of the 920/820/822/810 that is for charging on the plate, and it stil isnt' charging or indicating such status, then try rebooting the phone. Or performing a soft reset (pressing the volume down and power buttons together until the phone vibrates). If that doesn't work, then you will need to take your phone and the charging plate back to your point of purchase and demonstrate the problem you are having. Hopefully they will be able to give you a working replacement.

If they are being less than helpful in-store, then you can take your devices to your local Nokia Care point for them to inspect.

Light only comes on when phone in contact with plate.

Please don't take this the wrong way but plate is orientated correctly with the Nokia circle on top, as I never read multilingual instructions (had two copies of version without English in box) and made this mistake at first?

I hate to say this but I too did the same thing, after I said the plate was junk, I'm taking this thing back to the store and a few other words 

.It works great when I'm not being stupid. Thanks for posting and thanks to the person that answered.

Made the same mistake. Nearly gave up even after reading the post. Was turning everything around except the plate.

I made the same mistake too . Maybe Nokia should emphasise the correct way up for the charger in the instructions?
