Extract SMS and contacts from Backup File

[ Edited ]

Dear all,

I had my Nokia N80 mobile phone stolen, and the only thing that I have to restore my data is the nbu backup file ( generated by Nokia Ovi Suite).

Please, Does somebody know how to extract/export my contacts and SMS (text messages) from  nbu backup file?

I appreciate any help you can give me,

Thanks

There are some 3rd party applications which will open nbu files. The one I am familiar with is called Noki and it is available from nokisoft.com.

Before doing this, if you are planning on replacing it with another Nokia, depending on the model you are getting, it may be possible to restore the backup from your N80 to your new phone.

Please, Do you know any free/GNU solution?

I couldn't extract/export all data that I need using Noki due to the free edition limitations =/

Does Nokia Ovi Suite support reading and export user data from its backup file?

It is not the case, I am planning to buy an Android phone :smileyhappy:

thanks a lot,

Roger

Hi coolbelief,

thanks a lot for helping :smileyhappy:

Unfortunetly, Noki is a payed solution.

I am going to try this one:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/nbuexplorer/

It is frustrating, Nokia provides the Ovi Suite to generate a backup file that can only be read by a 3rd party application?

thanks

Re: Extract SMS and contacts from Backup File

Hi all, how are you?

I was able to retrieve all SMS through NBUExplorer, but all messages are stored on vmg files.

Please, Does somebody know how to convert VMG files into XML:confused:or other readable format)

Thanks in advance,

Roger

@ ossmalta

1. Run NOS 3.1.0.86
2. Sync Messages between device and NOS
3. Select messages in NOS pane
4. Go to file and export messages now. (.csv format)

Hope this will help
