When taking a photo in dark situations, there will be a bit of light leak or almost lens flare, but it can be replicated by covering the image sensor. I first noticed then when taking photos at a concert, where most of the image was very dark and the center of the image was bright.
I am not sure if this is an issue with the pureview algorithm or an issue with my camera. I suspect it is software related, as it doesn't happen all the time, and it doesn't happen in the exact same spots.
Here are two example photos. One from the aforementioned concert, and other from last night in a real world scenario. I have been able to replicate the issue from ISO-800 to ISO-1600.
The photos should have the EXIF data still attached, the first was taken at 1600, and the second at 1250. Pureview 8mp mode.

Hi Jaxx75, Welcome to the Nokia forums!
Purple tint caused by the sensor when taking photos in the dark is normal behaviour for most sensors in cameras when shooting at high Iso in low light conditions, This is caused by the extra electrical charge which is being provided to the sensor to increase the amount of light it can detect without sacrificing shutter speed.
I suggest decreasing the shutter speed or aperture so that you will be able to shoot at a lower ISO if you wish to prevent the purple tint caused by shooting at the upper ISO range. Or try combat it by using white balance to make the images warmer.
I hope this helps!

Sheldrick,
Thank you for your reply, however if you look at the images posted the pureview noise reduction worked great at the top left corner of the image, but horribly on the right side. I've never seen this in my few years of shooting on DSLRs. I would have no problem with an image that is generally noisy, however this is too frustrating to deal with. I am considering sending my 808 back because of this issue. Noise should be roughly the same across the entire image if there are dark regions, not just in one corner.

I can see the issue you are talking about, I believe that there must be a hardware issue with the sensor.
I suggest that you take your device to a Nokia Care point and they will be able to organise you a repair for your camera in your 808.

Can anyone else chime in to say if they have had the same issue?

I know this sounds a little unscientific but can you take another picture with similar content then turn the phone upsidedown and take another of the same scene.
Then compare the dark areas of the two photos. That way you'll be able to determine whether it's the sensor or the PureView algorithms.

Unfortunately I don't think this will lead to anything conclusive. The issue here is that the pureview algorithm is probably computed from one corner to another. The sensor and pureview are computed the same way, then the image is flipped. Even if you flip the phone, the image is simply aligned via the accelerometer. The sensor and pureview processing would be done in the same manner, regardless of the orentation of the phone. Thus, processing the right side of the image is still the "right" even if the phone is upside down, left, right, etc. As a programmer, I believe it would be very stupid to process the image based on the orientation of the phone.

I have the very same issue in my 808. Right side of the image in ISO1600 is useless and very bad at ISO800. I have started to wonder if it is caused by heat in this very compact space? If there is a heat source close to the sensor, it multiplies the purple tint effect? In that case is it a design error and not fixable in this phone? I don't really know and I'm taking my phone to care center as soon as it opens again. I think purple tint should be equal across the picture so it is correctable in post processing. Now it's very hard to try to fix just one side of the frame. Otherwise I'm more than happy with my 808.

the one's Nokia 808 was fixed "CAMERA MOD".

Maybe Nokia Care Center fix "CAMERA MOD" for the reason below?

Interestingly, in all of the images, noise is noticeably more intense in the right half of the images than it is elsewhere in the scene.
What's happening to the Nokia 808 Pureview @ ISO 1600?

this is the same problem as reported here....
http://discussions.nokia.com/t5/Nseries-and-Symbia
Design fault and down to an uneven temprature of the sensor ....
I've had a few still pictures which exhibit the purple colour tint on the right side of the picture. and not just with high ISOs.

I have just bought a 808 less than a month ago and it's exhibiting the high ISO problems at 1600 and 800 on the right side of the photos. I've sent the phone back to Nokia. We see what happens next.

Is "magenta color cast" same problem as the report?
Can firmware update fix these problems?

These maybe same issue as "noise gradient(purple noise)".

@PhoneDaz My 808 always get purple noise full of right part of the image when shooting at iso 1600, is that normal?
