Hi,
I am experiencing a new issue on my 808 PureView (a model from Ukraine, it was repaired by Nokia Care and now no longer shows the 3G/HDSP issue which it initially was affected with).
The new issue is that when I connect the phone to a PC or a charger, it gives an error sound and shows "Unrecognised USB device. Please disconnect or remove cable." (translated freely, my UI is not in English). This is the message that I usually get in USB-on-the-go mode when trying to connect something that is unsupported. After that, I even see the USB on the go icon flashing. In connection with this, the phone also cannot be charged from the PC as long as it thinks the PC is an unsupported USB-on-the-go device.
When I repeat the exercise half a dozen of times, sooner or later it finally switches to Nokia Suite mode and allows to be charged from the PC.
I tried three different cables and two different PCs.
Is there any chance of this being a software issue? Or is it plain that it must be hardware (the Micro USB connector on my 808)?
As you knoiw I have problems getting service (I only get it in Ukraine but I don't live there any longer), so I'd prefer to try out any software fixes befor handing it in to Ukrainian Nokia Care once again ...
Regards,
Tobias

You could try option to re-install existing device software in Nokia Suite > Options > Software Updates, but sounds horribly like something got disturbed when your 808 repaired unfortunately!
If I've helped in any way, a click upon the white kudos star would always be appreciated.

Indeed it seems to be a mechanical issue. When I put some downward pressure on the USB plug, the device will charge, when I relese the pressure it switches back to trying to do UTG. Bummers.
I inquired with the German Nokia service company whether I can just pay for a repair of this issue but gut no response. If they continue to be quiet it will go back to the service center in Ukraine next week. Don't know how quick I will get it back (you can't just send parcels with high tech device to Ukraine, the best way is have to have someone who is flying there, otherwise things just disappear).
This 600 € device has been in dysfunctional state more often than in function state ever since I bought it.
Obviously the 3G bug is a build quality issue and the USB connector is one as well (or it got damanged by repair, don't know and don't care, in the end it is build quality). I don't get service in my home country even though I bought the device legally, I just happend to move soon after I bought it.
I used to buy Nokia for great build quality and great service ...

Indeed it was a hardware fault. I may have caused it my own while using a mobile charger (phone + mobile battery in my pocket, gripped in my pocket, fetched out the battery, dragging the phone behind at the cable - NOT A GOOD IDEA!). I found a local repair shop in Germany who repaired my phone for me, cost me 70 €. I'm really in a romantic relationship with this device ...
So if your 808 start switching to USB OTG mode when it shouldn't, it may be a tottering contact at the USB plug. Lucky if you have warranty, unlucky if not.

I am now experiencing this on my USA 808 I bought from Amazon.. I am cocnerned that I am screwed because I will not be able to get mine repaired now even though I bought it from Amazon with USA warranty.

Why should you be concerned ? You must be still within the 12 months ?

So i called Nokia, and even though I bought my 808 from Amazon.com with full US warranty.. they are telling me that I have no warranty, and I am basically stuck with a broken phone now with no way to even get it repaired because I am in the US, and repair centers don;t have the parts for it here.
I paid amost $600 USD for only 5 months ago!!!
This is not right, and not fair way to treat customers!!!

If that is the case, you have every right to be upset.
Why would you not have a warranty ? Did you buy from Amazon itself or from an Amazon Seller ? Is your 808 a US/NAM version ?
2013-03-19 15:22
yup, Amazon.com was the seller, and clearly states US warranty.
I am very upset right now.

That link shows Wireless Everything as Seller, not Amazon USA. What is your product code ?
2013-03-19 15:41
there are multiple sellers.. I bought from Amazon.com seller..
Here is the direct link
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0087OXZ3K/ref=ox

Again, what is your product code ?
2013-03-19 16:24
sorry, its 059P728
2013-03-19 16:30
That's a proper US version:
059P728: Nokia 808 RM-807 Country Variant North America US White V2 - MR
You should talk to Nokia Care again, there is no reason for your warranty to be void.
2013-03-19 18:29
yes, I know its a proper US version.. I bought it from officiall AMAZON.COM.. not a 3rd party seller on Amazon.
What Nokia is doing is BAD and Unethical busness practice. I will report this to Better Business Bureau
