I updated my nokia N8 from pr 1.2 to the official anna yesterday.....the power consumption has increased a lot.
previously nokia batetry monitor 2 showed my phone consumes 35% battery wid my typical usage.
now with anna its consuming 65-70% battery per day
Is this normal for anna...are other users also getting the same problem
is there a solution to this??

i think the battery consumption has increased. if u noticed the background task shows a considerable increase in energy consumption. it can only be because of the OS. and it is known that anna hogs more ram than symbian^3..

I used ramblow to close all open apps (u know the ones dat remain open in background even when u close them lke messaging, calender, etc)
The battery usage is back to normal as of now atleast!!
The only background app which i find new as compared to 1.2 is the search app....the search app trace continues in background even after exiting it....maybe that is the culprit
Last night with it on i lost 20% battery overnight in 8 hours ( in which the phone was not distubed)
Today the usage is 8% in 10 hours wiht the phone being barely handled.......im at peace if it continues like this ![]()
but yeah the free ram seems to have one down by 10mb

Yes it does appear heavier but I would not know how to quantify this - the only real way would be to have a control test with pre anna device. Part of the problem may be the wlan - it does seem to be erratic \slower when automatically switching off. I still use handy taskman to close al running apps which helps - but generally daily battery usage does seem to have increased, some of that may be down to more playing with device since update.

I have noticed also.
I think that the problem lies in Connections... When I use an app that requires internet, Wlan won't shut down after automatically like before. Always must manually disconnect.
And sometimes connects automatically.

I noticed this sraight after Anna update. Huge increase in battery usage. My phone wont even last the day now, with no phone calls!!. Previously, the phone would last 48hrs.
I now get sluggish screen update when switching home screens as well.
I agree that I now find the WLAN active alot more. I have wound back email retrieval to "Every hour" to see how this goes and will then try to change the WLAN priority over 3G ( I have this currently set as higher priority to my 3G connection as this is more relable about the house).
The email app is a better layout, and the calendar is more functional, but this is all useless if the battery gets eaten up.
See howe we go. Not impressed so far!!

yesterday on typical usage after closing the background search app the battery usage came to 40% per day...i can with dat ![]()
so now the only problem for me is the log not showin gprs/wlan data transfers

I am also facing the same issue right after the ANNA upgrade.
The Battery life has become pathetic not to say the least. When with PR 1.2 it used to last for upto 2 days without any activity on the phone...now with the ANNA upgrade, the battery in my N8 lasts for just half a day without any calls being made or received, no WLAN, no Bluetooth, no background Apps running.
This is really puzzling.
Hope Nokia does something about this ?

I used the "App Stop" application from the OVI Store and have been using it since yesterday to stop unwanted apps running in the background.
Although there is a marginal improvement in the Battery performance, but it is not the same as earlier.

You may also find with Nokia Social that prior to opening the Social app. data connection usage is normal, but when the application is closed again the data keeps being poled; every few seconds the data connection (either 3G, GPRS or WiFi) will disconnect and then connect again.

Yes even I am facing the same problem of battery life having dropped drastically after upgrading to anna - tried closing all apps running in the background but this still does not restore battery life as pre-anna udgrade. Also my free RAM has dropped by 40Mb after upgrade without adding any other appli other than the ugrade package. Anybody facing the same problem?

Mine is the same. To be fair I struggled to get a day before but after installing Anna yesterday full charge to discharge took 2 hours.
I have run Energy Profiler and it shows a usage of between 1.2 and 1.5 watts continuously whilst the screen is on and between 0.75 and 1.1 watts when the screen is off. This is significanlty more than the saved pre-anna usage which was 0.75w with the screen on and 0.35w when the screen was off.
With all back ground apps closed, the usage is under Anna is marginally better (0.1w) but not much.
My phone is pretty much unuseable in this state...... ![]()

Same thing - Upgraded to Anna on 18/8/11 and seem to be having to charge it every day now. Today phone was down to 50pc after 24 hours and then down to 20pc just one hour later!! Anna seems to have basically halved the battery life of my phone. Not impressed at all about this - wish I hadn't installed Anna now.

Me too, and I was very puzzled, as I use the phone exactly the same as pre-Anna. Having graduated from 1960s mainframes, having seen a similar evolution on all computing devices - PCs and now phones - I think it is down to memory. Typically, when memory is tight, any decent multi-tasking OS pages in and out of memory, as do the programs it runs. Insufficient memory causes 'thrashing' where a huge amount of data starts to be moved around, using significant amounts of power. This can become exponential in low memory situations. The fact that this may be a part of the current problem we are all seeing is that as soon as I re-started my phone after updating to Anna I got a 'memory low' message - 'free up some memory ...'. I have not had that message before. Anna is significantly bigger than the previous version. As this is the only change on my N8, I must conclude that it has something to do with this. That having been said, I am not a technical expert on the way in which Symbian uses or handles the various memories available - just drawing what I think are reasonable conclusions, given the facts in front of me. 1. No problem before Anna. 2. Anna is bigger. 3. As soon as I install Anna I get a 'memory full' message. 4. My battery life nose-dives. Seems logical to me, but open to people with more in-depth knowledge of the subject than me to correct my assumptions. ![]()
AND YET AGAIN THE B****** SPELLCHECKER DOESN'T RECOGNISE SYMBIAN!!!!
Is this a Nokia forum or what?????? But then again, perhaps Nokia has removed Symbian from its vocabulary .....
