Ill, what you are experiencing is likely the Care Points playing against Nokia. As you know I also spoke to a (then yet) Carepoint in Germany (the one which refused to take my Ukrainian device due to "Nokias unique policy of not refunding them for reparing non-EU devices"). They also told me they would soon stop being a Nokia care point and I heard a lot of infos between the line. You know what image Nokia has in Germany after the Bochum and now the Bruchsal close-downs, after the Symbian killing (remember the OS that was developed using EU tax funds) etc. Except for us Pureview fans, almost everybody who is half-techy truly hates Nokia. So of course they'll folllow standard procedures (upgrading the firmware) before digging any further. It is not Nokia staff acting in the Care Points, it is **bleep**-off contractors. Now of course Nokia is ultimately to blame since it is them who organize the Nokia Care network.
I am still waiting for my repair. I visited the Care Point yesterday and was informated that the detail that needs changing is of course not available in Ukraine and it seems they have no idea how to get that detail in quanitity 1 through customs. They updated the estimated time of arrival to "now + 3-4 weeks", and I'm going back to Germany tomorrow. So it will be another couple of months until I come back to Ukraine and can potentially get my repair.
Unless, of course, I want to pay for an extra flight in 3 weeks only to have my phone repaired. Yeah, right. Getting a new phone is cheaper. Returning the 808 my Ukrainian dealer is not an option either, because the dealer takes the stand that Ukraine has no 3G so it is not their problem ...
So now I need to buy a new phone if I want 3G/3.5G in Germany. Unfortunately, none of the competitors has even remotely similar camera quality, so I am still undecided. The only other option to the 808 for me is the 920, but how do I know Nokia would handle any potential issue with the 920 in a better way. :-(.

I have been following this post a lot... I have a question... The phone hangs when using 3g network, I too see the same issue... I got my phone from nokia priority dealer... My question here is, is it really a how bug and can it be fixed by changing the faulty part!!? Or is the hardware bug seen only with phones shipped from Amazon!!?? Some1 pls let me know if i have to send the phone to nokia carepoint and get it fixed or as always, wait for "a software fix" from nokia!!??
I think there was one success story or repairing 808 (see some of the previous posts around Nov 24 with a link). My device is currently in repair center (USA), arrived there on Nov 29 according to UPS. There was no e-mail from Nokia, indicating they receive my phone. I really hope they can fix it, but I am not holding my breath. I will see after I get the phone back. It will take some time to figure it is fixed (as it took time for me to realize I had a serious problem in the first place). But I will report here as soon as I have any info. I too started to look for a replacement in case it cannot be fixed. I was at Microsoft store buying Surface tablet, and I played with all the Windows phones they have there. 920 is really impressive. I took a couple of pictures and they were great. I read some time ago that at low light it even beats 808! No zoom, of course, it is only 8MP. But after 808 it is probably the best camera out there with image stabilization and Pure View Technology (although in a bit different sense than 808, according to what I read). After playing for a couple days with Surface, I am seriously considering a windows phone, if Nokia cannot fix 808. I honestly thought this last Symbian unit will take me through a couple of years, and they I could decide what to do next. But It became practically unusable. So there is a dilemma. Other Windows Phones did not impress me, including Lumia 820 (or 810 I forgot). 920 is pretty big, and pretty heavy (not heavier than 808 though), but the quality is amazing! The only problem for me is that I am with T-Mobile, and they don't have it now.

gvp1995 Thank you for sharing... it would be very helpful for the rest of us, at least that way we would know if they are really fixing it, or of they are just repacing faulty hardware with faulty hardware.
Also, before buying a 920 I suggest heading over to wpcentral's forum section, and reading the user feedback from 920 owners.. its always useful.

And of course, you will see there only people complaining about issues, since that's what people visit these forums for - exactly like this very forum. Hardly anyone who is completely satisfied with his handset ever bothers to post about it on such a forum. So as long as one is aware what to expect when going to such a forum it may help to form some sort of opinion about the product.

Well that is always going on... you are 100% correct, but its always a good idea to look at the bug list, that way at least you have an idea of what to excpect, and not wonder if you are the only one around with a problem.
And.. there are quite of a few people there that are saying that their 920 is working as advertised.

For me 920 is a long shot anyway. 3 conditions must apply:
1. Nokia cannot repair 808
2. I can somehow get my money back from Amazon (bought in July for $700)
3. T-Mobile has 920 or there is an unlocked one with correct frequencies.
My biggest hope is that Nokia fixes 808. After all there is no other camera like that, and will not be for many years I think.

It is no doubt a crying shame how incapable and black-hearted divisions inside of Nokia itself spoil this marvelous camera. But I am just not willing to accept such a treatment as a customer. The phone is on its way to be refunded. If I'd read here some day that the fault is truly identified, I still might buy a new 808. For now I'm using my old E72 again and am waiting what Jolla will offer or on what hardware firefoxOS will be available. Sure enough I will not buy Windows on any kind of device as I hate to be under disability.

I agree. It is not off topic question. It happened with Nokia before that one color (product code) was affected with a bug. Actually, it is an interesting question. I don't know if other colors are involved, but can bet that there will be a lot of white 808

Yes, I'm betting most of these issues are from the white NAM models that are being sold at Amazon or in the Eastern Europe area.

Out of curiosity, is there anyone with 808 of a different than white color having these problems?
My phone is still in repair. Talked via chat today with the rep. Managed to get my repair number (e-mail was never sent). When checking through their site, it says Repair was created (or something of the sort). According to UPS it arrived to their facilities on Nov 29. So either they are still looking for something and cannot find, or finding a lot of things...

There are a few reviews on Amazon. I can't find any complaining about faulty 3g for the black color, just the white one.
The first time I sent my 808 into repair (3g data, dim screen saver, won't connect to nokia suite, wifi connectivity problems), they just ended up sending me a new one after a day, which still had a dim screen saver and wouldn't connect to nsuite.

As to colors, I clearly have the 3G bug in its worst form (~5 min to lockup in HDSPA mode, about 1 h to lockup in 3G mode, no or virtually no lockups in 2,5G mode) and my 808 is a black phone. Bought in Ukraine at a time when only back and white phones were available, but not the red ones. So if it is color-related at all, then you should look out for red phones. Does anybody experience the bug on a red phone?
To all those who are asking basic questions: this might be a combination of a multitude of factors. But it is very likely to be hardware, and currently Nokia offers to have phones with this bug checked and repaired at a Nokia Care point, so if you have this bug, send it to your nearest Nokia Care point for repair (replacement of faulty parts) with a printout of the link that I posted earlier. Do not wait for a software update to fix this. There are (albeit few) users with the current softwrae that can use 3G without issues.
Right now I switched back to my 5800 due to total unusability of the 808. Only now I realize how retarded I felt with the 808 - the 5800 is really a low-end old phone by now, but it happily stays connected to 3.5G HDSPA and Wi-Fi all the time. What a relieve after 6 months of frustration with the 808. So while I am waiting for the replacement part to be delivered to my Ukrainian Nokia Care Point, I have the 5800 in my pocket as a phone and the 808 as a camera. Very weird.

gvp1995 Maybe them keeping the phone is a good sign.. instead of just sending you a new faulty unit, they might be waiting for the new "fixed" parts, or maybe even a new phone with replaced mother board...
