fokrow - what country are you in?

The IMEI you give is earlier than a couple of 808s I know about for sale, from a grey importer on amazon.co.uk.

I'm in the US.  But unfortunately my new phone just rebooted so it looks like this one is going back to Nokia.

Re: Bug in 808 3g mobile data?

Unbelievable..........

The only IMEI we so far hear has worked is 35196505191xxxx which was bought from Barl which is an amazon.co.uk trader so presumably it was bought in the UK.

I have asked all traders if they can do anything later and thus far nobody (who has responded) can.

I never heard back from that Nokia repair centre in the UK, which said they would find out about this.

He did suggest I call Nokia, which I tried, but Nokia have recently hacked their telephone support line so that an IMEI must be entered to get through, and none of the 808 IMEIs I found on google work - it says this phone is invalid, presumably because Nokia don't support the 808 in the UK.

Re: Bug in 808 3g mobile data?

I just called Nokia and they told me to go back to their website and put in another warranty claim.  I asked them if they could send me a replacement 808 first and then I'd send my defective one back and they said no.  So I guess I'll go back to my E7 for another week and hopefully they send me a working device this time.

Re: Bug in 808 3g mobile data?

This is the thing. The phone is unpredictable. It can work for weeks and then start hanging and rebooting. If someone never had this bug, it does not mean the phone is OK. It may not work on a different network or with some other combination of factors. However, if someone had this bug, and then it went away, this could be an indication it is fixed. But for this I would give some time. At least a couple of months.

Did anyone install 1508 update?! I keep reading about it on the web, but my phone does not get it. I currently have 1507.

If this issue is what I think it is i.e. power requirements while transmitting data in HSPA mode, this is going to be very network dependent, because different networks set up the equipment differently, according to how much bandwidth they are willing to pay for.

For example HSPA in Germany (I think they like to call it UMTS) is likely to run several times faster than HSPA in the UK. In fact if Nokia are really smart they will be routing fixed stock to Germany :smileyhappy:

I agree the best way is to wait for stocks to clear out (a few months) or to wait till a number of people post clear indications of a fix and their IMEIs.

Nokia will of course be silent in these forums because they want to shift the defective stock for cash - even if they end up with a "customer service issue" downstream. That is how big business works nowadays....

Re: Bug in 808 3g mobile data?

tested my new replaced 808 last few days ......

from now on i can tell you something. :

after Handset arrives i made an update via Nokia Suite ( w764x ultimate system) to

latest firmware available . 1507....

Use the Handset wile listening webradio (Nokia internetradio / NRG.DJ.) and transmitting over 88.60mhz AND

same time Nokia Maps is running with live traffic in "just Drive" mode....

Handset crashes after ca. 15 minutes drivetime i noticed also an overheat of unit / rising temperatures (23.5cels. in car.) before unit switches off . keyLights were on , had to replace battery for restart. :smileysad:((((((((

afterwards i decided to install 1508 firmware , and from now on the unit shows at same route no noticeable wrong behaviour......

ill check it every day and keep you up dated......

EDIT : reffering to changelog of 1508 they changed only something to refer to changed EU rights from 31.jan 2013... but i noticed , the webbrowser is more stable and faster and the input error in webbrowser is gone .)..

That's all very interesting. But to this very minute 1506 is the highest firware available on Nokia Suite at least here in Germany. So how should I get 1508?

Re: Bug in 808 3g mobile data?

The IMEI would also be very useful to know.

It's quite possible that Nokia are distributing firmware updates selectively so if there is a major issue the whole world doesn't blow up. In my business I do the same.

Re: Bug in 808 3g mobile data?

it depends on the Phone ID what Firmware will be Available via Ovi Suite....

in this case , my 1508 is half official only ..... just google huellif.

hoping that 1508 will be available officially for German Handsets soon....

There is no detailed Changelog from now on , but i saw several issues fixed in FW 1508.

Bad news ......

with my new German  replacement unit Nokia 808 PV and .1508 FP2 , i still have reboot issues ....

whatsapp running in background , Nokia internetradio 3.5.0 and latest Map version simultaneously in drive only mode.

transmitting via 88.60Mhz to Car Audio......

No Hangs and no need to remove battery , but still phone switches off and reboot ....

Just keeping in mind that w-support Germany does not deliver my old BV 4 D 1400mAh ,3.8v  but instead

they sended a BL-4D 1200mAh 3.7v  Nokia N8 Batterry with my new 808 Device back to me.

eventually the voltage could be a reason for system reboot ?????

maybe there is one of those apps above which causes trouble , but i still check it furthermore and try to find out in which situations the re-boot takes place .....

Re: Bug in 808 3g mobile data?

I should recieve my new one from Nokia USA sometime next week. Both of my 808s were from week 26 2012, and both rebooted randomly.

I am very skeptical that the one I recieve will be a properly working unit, and if its not, I will probably give the BBB a call and see if they can get them to move on this, obviously we are not that important :smileyhappy:

Re: Bug in 808 3g mobile data?

I have the same issue within The Netherlands. I've sent my phone to the german care but got it back today with just software updates. Within 2 hours I was able reproduce the problem. Now I can within 5 minutes. This is really depressing as I've included ALL details in my package (including this topic). Ugh.....

I phoned Nokia and recommended me to send it again with referencing my old care number. It seems clearly to me that you have to be really lucky or something that someone takes care of your phone that knows about the issue....

I don't feel like this is going to be fixed anytime soon. So I really have doubt about sending it immediately again today. I don't see much progress in this topic too though. I can't believe Nokia is not providing more information :smileysad:

Nokia, please, so many people, so many willing to help you.

If anyone has new advice I'm glad to hear.

I would agree that this post is dead. There's just no solution in sight and Nokia is ignoring the issue.

I can only repeat that with the supplied BV-4D 3.8V 1400mAh battery I had no problems. Unfortunately this battery is practically not available anywhere, so as a second battery I bought a BV-4D 3.7V 1320mAh. That`s when my typical 3.5G Bug problems started. I then bought a Mugen 3.8V 1500mAh battery from China for $40. It's not as good as the Nokia 3.8V but considerably better than the 3.7V, which means that crashes do happen, but relatively rarely. So I guess I'll have to live with that and it's tolerable. On the highway you don't need 3.5G anyway, the navigation works fine without it.

Re: Bug in 808 3g mobile data?

That's very interesting too, that 0.1V on the battery makes such a difference.

It makes perfect sense i.e. HSPA data transmission loads up the internal power supply just a bit too much, and it drops below the voltage required to run the CPU or whatever.

It's like the SANYO ENELOOP batteries. They don't have any fantastically bigger capacity but they have a very slightly higher cell voltage than the normal NIMH cells, which makes them last dramatically longer in many real products. For example in my Pentax K200D camera they used to last about 10x longer than normal NIMH cells of the "same" capacity.

I am in Spain now and not one phone shop has even heard of the 808. I wonder where Nokia are selling this phone?

My Nokia 700 has been running HSPA all day, perfectly, here. Lanzarote has a really fast 3.5G network. That phone just never crashes.

Well I hope it will not be dead entirely. So do you suggest that all new models don't have this problem? Because this pretty much is a major problem.

I agree navi123. I find it very very bad service. I included ALL information and they just ignored or even bothered phoning me about it. When calling Nokia I got some India girl on the phone that barely spoke english and just said the default things from her flowchart.

I got hsdpa disabled and the navigations seems OK. But i cannot accept this flaw for such expensive device. A alternative is not a option because I always bought the phones with best camara (N82, N8 and now 808).

So don't accept this being dead. We paid for it!

Interesting about the battery. Seems to me Nokia can fix this with a little effort....

Re: Bug in 808 3g mobile data?

Bad new again. I received 5 days ago a new 808 unit. Twice, yesterday and today, systematically after a missed call i found my 808 with the screen saver freezed  and with the sms notification light flashing. My unit was not responding and the only way was to take out the battery, again and again...

Re: Bug in 808 3g mobile data?

[ Edited ]

Hi,

I have now used my repaired device for 14 days in Germany, many times at placeds with weak coverage, in the train etc., with O2, being always-on with WhatsApp and Skype and doing Flickr uploads, without experiencing the 3G glitch. My device is product code 059M7H1 IMEI 35XXXXXXXXXXXXX, a early-bird device from Ukraine (I am German but I actually lived in Ukraine when I bought it). It was originally affected by the bug in its very worst form (lockups every five or so minutes with HDSPA enabled, but even lockups with normal 3G with HDSPA disabled). I had it serviced in Ukraine (Nokia would not service it in Germany), they soldered something on the main PCB (I did not find out what exactly) and now I am fine.

You guys seem to be obsessed with trying to get replacement devices. I tell you it won't help. You have to get Nokia to repair your device. Here is how:

You need to take in or send in your device to Nokia Care, you need to attach a printout of this URL:

http://www.nokia.com/pk-en/support/product/808/troubleshooting/?action=singleFAQ&caseid=FA140286_en_...

And you need to make a very clear statement that you have this specific bug and that you want this specific bug repaired for your device by having the defective detail on the main PCB replaced.

I know from the Nokia guy in Ukraine that Nokia does have a global support database and when the Nokia clerks enter the reference from the URL cited above into their support database, they will find instructions on how to fix the issue. The fact that the Ukrainian care canter was able to fix my phone is proof enough - it was impossible for him to have heard of the bug before I took my phone in, Ukraine does not even have a 3G/HDSPA network. But still, from my information and the information they had in their database, they managed to fix the 3G bug in my phone! You just need to write a convincing letter that convinces them they should not follow standard procedures but go straight to the solution for this specific bug.

I cannot believe I am the only person on this forum who had their phone successfully repaired!? I understand that some of you are using grey imports, but everybody who is entitled to service - slap the guys at Nokia Care in their faces until they do the right thing. I think it is currently your best if not only chance of getting a 808 that works satisfactorily.

Regards,

Tobias

P.S.: I have found that the Social widget is buggy to a point that it can cause crashes that are unrelated to the 3G bug and have disabled it. Social itself is fine, it is just the widget that can cause the main screen to misbehave. I should porabably open a separate thread about that.
