@hpholm: Thanks for the info, but most of the complains here are about [before Anna or Anna] = best quality that the N8 camera is capable, [Belle] = bad quality when comparing to [before Anna or Anna]. This topic is not a review of the N8 camera in absolute terms.

@secarica: I do not see any major changes in still image capture since PR1.1 through PR1.2 and Anna to the Belle firmware on my Nokia N8, and nobody has been able to convince me that there is any difference at all between Anna and Belle still image capture quality and focus handling.
The PR1.2 firmware had stability problems on my N8, and video capture quality were bad with its wobble/jelly effects and weird framerates. Most of that was sorted out with Anna, and video recording is taken a step further with 720p at 30fps in Belle.
I prefer to look forward and I hope Nokia and their department of Quality Assurance will sort out the various trouble people are having with Belle. If the still image capture quality turns out to be a valid complaint on certain N8 phones, then that has to be sorted out too!

@hpholm : Are you joking or what ???
"and nobody has been able to convince me that there is any difference at all between Anna and Belle still image capture quality and focus handling"
What are about these 7 pages here ? Do you really think that all the guys just like to waste their time complaining about a non-existant issue ? Have I not convinced you about the differences between my 2 N8 shots with Anna and Belle made and posted at the beginning of the thread? And I'm not the only one who did this, just Google it ! Say it that you never saw the yellowish tint on Belle shots, or never experienced focus problems in low-light conditions ! First was Sheldrick, now it's you ... better read all the thread . Do you have 2x Nokia N8 , one with Belle and one with Anna, have you tried what I did , are you working at Nokia or ... what gave you that impression ? Cause I never heard of such a test made at Nokia and an official statement that all of us are wrong. I agree that many of us are photo amateurs, but really, we don't deserve this treatment.

@Ibanias: I'm just trying to help.
The beauty of the internet is that you can post as much as you want and anyone who wants to can either answer you or ignore you.

@hpholm: did you notice any change in night/dim light photos? especially in low light without flash? I feel the photos show much more grain than in Anna. Also it takes little trying to get it focused. In uniform background especially dull coloured (like wall/backdrop without anything in front of it) autofocus doesn't seem to work.
Please try and let us know.

Well most of the issues have discussed by the Nokia N8 friends and Belle users.
I also felt the same issues and quite frustrated with the performance.
Currently using three camera apps
1. Default camera
2. Camerapro version 2.8.8
3. CameraLover Pack version 1.1.6 from Symbian 3.
Issues:-
A lot of grain in low light pictues almost purple in color.
focus issue.
blur etc
Hoping Nokia is looking into it to help the valued customers.....

For now I have experienced not being able to focus in macro-mode. When I am able too the picture is not into focus.
On non-macro I consider the out-of-focus there is movement(of the hands), since the N8 is that big, not easy to hold, slippery and not using a tripod.And/Or wrong settings for focus area, probely it id center weighted. But that isn't the case with every shot.
In focus
The top of the houses ar not in focus
But I will but a tripod holder

I bought N8 as a handy nice camera phone in mind. But now it is turning to be a junk and a pain when ever I want to click some good snaps.
So finally planning for a andriod or a DSLR....

Its been a while since we reported the problem, and still nothing official from Nokia. I was hoping they can fix the issue in the next software update, or maybe put out a "camera update" just like the one after the Anna firmware update. The problem must be in the camera app.. as far as I can tell.
I was foreced to use camera pro 3.0, which fixes the problem to a certain extend.
The N8 is great smartphone, Belle makes it even better, but the amazing camera is part of the deal.. so please fix it!

The off. release of Belle was in feb '12
Don't think Nokia is gonna solve this on the spot. They have other things to do like WP7 and the Pureview
New firmware only costs money. So it can take up another 3 to 6 months before a fix is release. We have to be patience.

The N8′s camera is already focused and pressing the button further will snap whatever you see on your display, so if your photo is out of focus, that’s not good. Sounds like a big deal right? Well, you can always use the on screen shutter button and the camera will go in auto mode, focus and take the photo. Choosing your focusing mode is very important too."

But keep the camera stil! Using the on screen shutter makes the camera move more.

Just updated to Belle on my carrier`s customized N8. The version installed is 111.030.0609. The thing that most annoys me is the grainy pictures on low light condition. Dynamic range also looks narrower. I feel like I`m using a cheap camera. Very sad...

Even an expert using almost all latest Nokia devices to teach mobile photography finds it challenging to take good shots with Belle on N8.
http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php/1755015
There's definitely a decrease in quality and an increase in size.
I just don't get why they have to muddle at the software again. It may be right for EDOF devices, but N8 is not an EDOF. But I fear they won't do anything about it.

Does anyone know if the Belle Refresh Update solves any of these camera problems?
I don't want to go through all that again if the picture quality is just as **bleep**.
Thanks,

Camera Software is untouched in this version.. its the same belle camera. Photos taken at low light conditions are still way out of focus and blurry...Belle Refresh is much more snappier than previous belle.. but still improvement in the camera side..
I think its the problem with Belle OS update not the camera part..
Never mind.. use the good old Anna for the best camera performance..

Hi all,
For those interested I did a low-light shootout between an Anna N8 and Belle N8. I've posted the images and results on the DP Review discussion boards:
http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1
I found that once transfered to a PC, images produced by both are ideitical. It's just when viewing on the handset that the Belle N8 images look worse.
Cheers

I have both an anna and belle N8, and the camera quality is without a doubt worse, much worse. Focussing is near impossible, very unhappy that my belle camera is almost not worth using anymore.
2012-09-26 15:55
I do too and I spent time doing a comparison. In terms of image quality both Anna and Belle are identical. Perhaps focus is worst, I hadn't noticed. Check my comparision on the DP Review forums (linked above).

Cannot reproduce this anymore - have only one N8 with Belle fefresh now.
Used to have beta-version of the camera program in my N8 when it was still running Anna.
The pic quality & ease of use over the regular Anna camera program was much better Beta.
However, once updated to Belle, the quality and usability dropped.
And the feeling is that low light indoors & counter light situations give worse quality pics, even after transfer to PC.
BR,
long time user - now waiting to "bug out" the new 920 once it comes to local market - no wish to update to anything else yet ( despite the probs, N8 cam & vid cam perform better than anything else in the market ). ![]()
