I'm using an N8.

I tried to update to Nokia Belle using Nokia Suite but the process always gets stuck during backing up the phone. It said that it cannot back up the phone and there was the black-and-yellow exclamation sign by the 'Messages' in the back up list. Can anyone help me please?

Hi Lailajusoh.

Welcome to the Nokia forum.

Please first try a hard reset on your N8.

Back up your data with Nokia Suite, but don't tick the Settings box as this will backup any bugs in the software. Now enter *#7370# into your phone.

The default security code is 12345.

After the reset has been finished, connect your device to Nokia Suite and click on the green arrow to reinstall Belle. 

After you've done this, place the backup back onto your phone and this should update your device to the latest software version.

Let me know how you get on so that we can troubleshoot further, if necessary.

What I can suggest for you is to manually backup your phone by opening Nokia Suite and following the instructions as posted on the attached screenshots from Screenshot1.jpg to Screenshot4.jpg and after backing up try to update your Nokia N8. Screenshot4.jpg will b posted in my next post right below this as nokia only limits to three attachments per post.

I followed your instructions and it worked! I am now using Belle. Thank you!

Though I did lose some messages that I received in between the time I have done my backup and was going to delete the contents. So maybe in the future you could recommend others to put the phone on offline mode first?..

Unfortunately the phone needs to be connected for the update process to work properly.
